Emergency reset of PalmSens

If PalmSens is completely blocked, the next procedure is used to load the instrument with the firmware and to restart the instrument. Necessary tools: Size 14 spanner Phillips or TORX T-10 screwdriver Flat screwdriver Pointy tool

Step 1
Untighten the bolt very carefully with the spanner, without scratching the surface of the housing. Screw it off using your fingers.

Step 2
If present remove the two protective caps using the pointy tool by sticking it between the cap and housing and levering it out.

Step 3
Remove the sensor side of the housing.

Step 4 Installing or updating the firmware of PalmSens.

Connect PalmSens to the ac-adapter and the PC. IMPORTANT: It is essential that PalmSens is not switched off during the process of updating the firmware. Be sure that the batteries are full or that PalmSens is connected to the ac-adapter. The program for updating the firmware is installed together with the PSTrace program. Run this program called Update firmware. If this program is not available on your PC or laptop, it can be installed by downloading it from the website: www.palmsens.com . This update or download program is installed together with the PSTrace program. The program Update firmware requires connection to PalmSens by means of a COM port or a USB cable. Select the cable in use and press Connect. Underneath the Browse button, the program shows Could not determine which device is connected. This is correct since PalmSens does not give any response in this sitation. Now use Browse to select the PSnn.HEX file. Since PalmSens will not be recognized properly, check the box PalmSens is already in download mode and press the button Start update firmware.

The window now tells you to press Enter + Esc + < + > . Since PalmSens does not respond to the keys, please omit this message and continue with step 5.

Step 5
IMPORTANT: Shortcircuit the two pins next to the blue tiny resetbutton and press this button while keeping the two pins shortcircuited.
Note: in case it is hard to press the blue reset button behind the two short-circuited pins, it is also possible to remove the ac-adapter as well as batteryconnector for a few seconds and replace the batteryconnector, while keeping the two pins short-circuited. This requires that the ac-adapter is NOT connected and the battery has a reasonable charge left.

. In case the procedure is not successful, please repeat the procedure again from step 4.

Closing the housing

Undo the shortcircuiting of the two pins. Place the ring back over the sensorconnector and screw the sensor side of the housing back on. Do not use too much force while screwing, this may cause the screw to slip or break! Place the nut back onto the sensorconnector and screw it using your fingers as fixed as you can. Then tighten the nut by turning it one quarter more using the spanner. Tightening it too much will damage the housing. If available put the protective caps in place.
