Chapter 1 Introduction

Flow around flapping wings, aerodynamics, high speed automotives and many more things are being done by Computational fluid dynamics. Compressible flows with shock solutions are encountered in a wide variety of situations, from aeronautics to defense industry. Two types of methodology is used for compressible flow Pressure based flow Density based flow

In density based method density is used as a primitive variable but at low Mach number, pressure density coupling become weaker and it doesnt work at low Mach number. On the other side pressure based method is valid for all speeds flows because change in pressure is independent of Mach number. Whatever be the Mach number, some pressure definitely will be there. On the behalf of this concept pressure correction method works for all speeds flows.

Problem Define: A simulation has to be done on pressure correction method for compressible
flow in unsteady situation. Finite volume methodology is to be used with 2 dimensional Cartesian grid. This problem is going to be achieved in order to solve few problems before dealing the main problem. In all this thing pressure correction method is the key thing for using SIMPLE and extension of SIMPLE. SIMPLE and its extension are extended to compressible type of flow situation, but still some issues are there with unsteady flow.

Objective and Scope: Main objective of this work is to find a stable and accurate pressure
correction methodology for unsteady compressible case. In recent years, so many people worked on it, but all of them worked on steady type of situation some of them worked on unsteady situation but some oscillation and unstablity was there in their work and those work is limited in terms of Mach number i.e. these unsteady methodology done by people works only in a range of Mach number. They havent shown it for a wide range of Mach number. Due to these reasons objective is to find a better pressure correction methodology in terms of computation effort and stable and accurate with the use of different convective schemes. In aerospace engineering, dealing mostly with the solution of transonic and supersonic flows. This Methodology works for defense industries and in space research where High speed missiles and planes are going to be used. In chapter 2 there is a literature survey is done for extension of compressible flow case and concluded. Chapter 3 deals with some Benchmark problems solved in a order to get the essence of SIMPLE in real working situations. Chapter 4 presents the conclusion of complete study and scope of future work.
