TECHNOLOGY HAS EXCEEDED OUR HUMANITY It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our

humanity. - Albert Einstein Humanity is defined as the quality or condition of being human. Human nature is the concept that there is a set of inherent distinguishing characteristics, incl uding ways of thinking, feeling, and acting which all humans tend to possess. In an age where technology surrounds and influences all spheres of human life it is imperative for us to consider whether technology is changing how we think, f eel and act. With the advent of modern technology our lives have become much eas ier than they had been in the past. All the routine chores and day to day tasks can be easily accomplished by the machines giving people a lot of time to spare. And as they say, 'An idle mind is a devil's workshop', a revolution in social t echnology took place which is today known as "FACEBOOK". FACEBOOK here is being used to denote the social technology as a whole which is permeating everything i n our lives. This craze has pulled over 500 million people into use of this tech nology for various purposes. Humanity is experiencing connectivity to human netw ork like never before in history. It was born as a medium of connecting to your friends and family without actuall y disturbing them but today it has transformed into an obsession especially with the adolescents. The happy dinner time where the family members spend quality t ime with each other while sharing each other's day is now a thing of the past as every member of the family has their gadgets to attend to. Even the grandparent s today are not interested in talking when their favourite tv show is going on. With the advancement of technology the size of the gadgets are reducing making i t easier to carry the virtual world with you everywhere you go on your mobile ph ones. People have the constant urge of remaining connected and keep checking the social website updates every now and then even while they are having a conversa tion with someone else. This constant need of being praised by the online commun ity has made people restless and irritable. The worst can be the teenagers falli ng into depression which was unheard in the past. The growing no. of cyber crimes is another negative impact of technology. With t he growing urge of people to remain connected and make their private lives publi c leave them vulnerable to all sorts of mishaps where people know exactly you wo uld be doing at this time of the day. This has also made people paranoid. Technology is like a double edged sword which can be used to kill as well as pro tect at the same time. It is upto us how we use it. We should control our lives and not let them be governed by those gadgets to which we have become slaves.
