PAPER 2
1. (a) 80% of students in a school get average mark more than 80 marks in one test. (i) find the mean number of students in the school who get average more than

80 marks if there are 1870 students in the school. (ii) 7 students are chosen at random from the school. Find the probability that less than two of them are get average mark more than 80 marks. (b ) The volume in a can of drink has a normal distribution with mean of 375 ml and a standard deviation of 6.0 ml. (i) find the probability that a can chosen at random contains less than 373 ml (ii) it is found that 810 can in a container contains less than 370 ml. Find the total number of can of drink in the container. 2. (a ) In a archery training, each athlete takes 9 arrows to shoot. The probability for an athlete to hit the board on a shoot is k. After the session, it is found that the mean number of shoots that hit the board for an athlete is 7.2. (i) find the value of k (ii) if the athlete is chosen at random from the training session, find the probability that at least 7 of his shoots hit the board. (b ) The weight of students in School A is normally distributed with a mean of 52 kg and a variance of 36 kg2. 536 of the students in the school have weight between 49 kg and 58 kg. Find the number of students in the school.

3.

(a )

From a research, found that 35% of the students in a town go to school by bus. If 8 students in the town are chosen at random, calculate the probability that (i) exactly 5 of them go to school not by bus.

(ii) more than 6 students go to school by bus. (b ) The time taken for a student to answer a questions of a test is normally distributed with mean of 12 minutes and a standard deviation of 6.5 minutes. A student is chosen randomly, calculate the probability that he takes (i) less than 10 minutes to answer the question (ii) between 10 minutes and 15 minutes to answer the question 4. (a ) An insurance salesman sells policies to 5 men of identical age and in good health. According to his companys records, the probability that a man of this particular age will be alive in 20 years time is 2 . Find the probability that in 20 years time, 3

(b )

the number of men still alive will be (i) exactly two (ii) at least one The mean mark for 400 candidates in an examination was 42. If the marks were normally distributed with standard deviation of 24, find (i) the passing mark if 90% of the candidates pass (ii) the number of candidates with grade A if candidate must get 80 marks and above for grade A

5.

(a )

(b )

1 X is a discrete random variable such that X ~ B n, and the variance is 1.5. 4 Find (i) the value of n (ii) P ( X 2) The height of the Form 6 students in a school is normally distributed with a mean of 150 cm and a standard deviation of 5 cm (i) If a pupil is chosen at random, calculate the probability that his heights is at least 160 cm. (ii) If there are 250 Form 6 students in the school, find the number of students with height less than 145 cm.
