God Is Working
I feel I have a ringside seat as I watch what God is doing in hearts
and lives, and I cheer them on. In my last letter I mention Lai (Mien

name) Nin (Thai name), who believed on the Lord in 7^ grade in the
CYDC dorm in Chiangkam. Her father disowned her. Afterfinishing
school she went to Bangkok, married and was living with his family when a

brother In adrunken rage tried to kill them. They fled to the house parents

in Chiangkam. Lai's husband accepted the Lord and got off alcohol and

drugs. After her baby was delivered by C-section, Lai's mother came and cared for her, but on
returning home her husband threatened to kilt her. In December Lai's father became ill. Since it

was time to harvest com, he asked Lai and her husband to come and help. They were gone a
month and though the house parents couldn't contact her by mobile phone due to the

mountains, there was no problem in communicating with God asking for his help for this couple. Corn harvest was over and the grandfather had become attached to his grandchild and wanted

the family to stay. However, an older brother and his wife were not happy at the prospect, so Lai and her husband have returned to Chiangkam and he is working at a motorcycle repair place
and the housefather is discipling him. Pray for them that they may grow in Christ and for the grandfather that his heart might be opened to the Lord. The grandmother believes, but has not been able to fellowship with Christians due to her husband's opposition.

could live. To us it looks impossible as

make something of them. The Korean donn has agreed to take him on trial for the month of

February. He made a profession offaith and was baptized 2-3 years ago, but has shown no life. He worked for me for about 10 days and has improved in his ability to communicate and
cooperate. Pray that God will work out H/s will and purpose in his life.

My Grown Children

Bla came from Australia to attend Dang and Beer'swedding in Bangkok January16*^. Then she, Tao and Chao came to visit me. Tao had said he wanted to get married while Bla was here, so with phone communications with Nok's family in Chiangmai it was arranged. InKean, the housefather, took the part ofan uncle (Tao's father died) and finalized the arrangements for the next day. Then he took Tao and Bla and the preacher from Sope Waan over to Chiangmai to the home ofthe bride. The bride's parents had asked InKean to plan the program and he arranged for the preacher give the message to the bride and groom. The family are not Christians but Nok accepted the Lord when she was in college in Chiangmai. The young couple came with Bla the next day to see me, since Iwas unable to attend the wedding. Then they returned to Bangkok the following evening to go back to work, but they were very happy.
Tao wanted to move back home and we had been praying to know the Lord's will. Three weeks later, they returned to Chiangkam to interview for jobs, but ittumed out that the insurance

company hires a secretary for 3 months with no pay and then may or may not accept as a
permanent worker. We will continue to pray for the Lord's will.

Bangkok, he took the phone call informing us that Chao had fallen from a high ladder while installing electricity and was in the Chiangmai University Hospital. The man from the company
assured us that the insurance would pay for his hospitalization and that Chao had recovered

So while this didn't work out, the Lord used Tao. Just an hour before their bus leftfor

asked if he would visit Chao. (Chao has been attending church there and Banya is a family friend from the mission work in Pua under Imogene Williams and Dr. Gariand Bare.) With a

Coworkers

Mike Phillips returned to Thailand for 2 weeks to help care for business and check on the Leadershiptraining program and the agricultural program. He would have stayed longer but had to get back for the memorial service for his father-in-law who died while visiting them in Kansas at Christmas time. The service was held January 30*^ in the Seattle area where Naomi's father
had worked as a teacher at a Bible college. There were over 600 at the memorial service from all over the worid. Afitting tribute to a loyal worker who loved to teach the Word of God. He shared in the leadership training when he was In Thailand visiting. The Phillips are waiting on the Lord for the provision of money so that Naomi can continue her application for U.S.

citizenship. They are also praying about moving from Kansas to Seattle to pastor a Thai church
Mike co-founded before coming to Thailand. It is uncertain how long It will take for citizenship for Naomi or how long before she can leave the country. The boys would like to go to Seattle where they could use their Thai, but they would have to transfer to another college.
The farm loan program will have to be changed as the government has put in new

regulations that only the govemment or large organizations that make special arrangements with the government can have loan programs. Pray for the Lord's guidance in this and those in many villages who wHI be affected. There is ongoing dialogue as to what will be allowed. The government is trying to cut out corruption but many missions with small programs will be
affected.

We are praying for a suitable young woman to take over the supervision of the Home of Refuge for a year so that the house parents can have a sabbatical. They have been serving for 17 years without being able to go any place as a family. They need time to recuperate and deal
with personal and family problems.

Mike Avrit and his family who came here from serving In Laos vwll be going on furiough in June. Their oldest boy, Cristopher, will be starting college in Tennessee where their supporting
church and extended family live.

My Health
My health has improved some^there Is less back and leg pain, but I still have to use a walker. But I praise the Lord I can still have a part in the work in Thailand through prayer, counseling and encouraging others. May God refine us and make us what He wants us to be that He may be glonfied. You have a vital share in this ministry through your prayers, support and encouragement.

Only God can undertake and mold us into a team with Christ as the head. May we be faithful
servants.

CO-WORKER GONE TO BE WITH THE LORD

I was just sitting down to write you when I received word that Don Byers, a former co-worker in Thailand had gone to be with the Lord. He and his family
worked among the Khamu in Thailand from 19S41964. Then they returned to America for the

education oftheir children as Donnie was just ready

to start high school. Later they worked among the

Khamu refugees in the San Francisco area. Thinking of them brings back memories of two 5 day trips over the mountains from Chiangkham to their home in the

ministered to him and many of the Khamu. My memory of Don is a gentle man who served the Lord humbly and faithfully along with his wife, Roberta. Pray for the family as they adjust to theirloss, knowing that he has entered into thejoy ofthe Lord. HOME OF REFUGE continues ministry

Two orthree months ago the house parents at the Home of Refuge received a phone call from Wipa, a girl who was in the home for 3 years and then went on to vocational training.

The house parents contacted many places and found a Christian orphanage that agreed to take them in 2-3 monthswhen they finished building an addition. Wipa had no place to leave the boys in the meantime so she the Hpme of Refuge became their refuge. Two little boys with no play equipment and no playmates presented quite a challenge. The house mother was glad when the time came to take them by bus to Chiangmai to meet their mother from Bangkok and for Wipa to get them settled in the home. The ministry as
grandparents to these rescued girls continues after they leave the home.

Dorothy Uhllg's Report from Thailand

Dear Friends,

December 9, 2009

At Christmas time we tliinl< especially oftine birth ofJesus and

the change that He brought into the world as He came to save

men from their sins and to transform their lives by dwelling within-truly Emmanuel, God with us. We are seeing lives transformed here in Thailand as you pray. May I share with you some of the recent victories that glorify God and some of the needs for
continued prayer.

About 4 years ago Ifirst met Liu, a Mien young woman who had
worked in Bangkol< and accepted the Lord. She developed some mental probfems and had to retum home. She was encouraged by many Christian books she

borrowed from me and attended the Mien church at Pepper Village. After severaTmonths she went to live and with Ylng Muey, a Mien woman evangelist wiio disclpled her for many months. This last year her mother developed cancer of the throat and had to have x-ray therapy in the Chiangmai hospital. Her sister was also in the same hospital suffering from kidney disease and having to have dialysis. An older sister had a stroke. Liu cared for her mother and sister in the hospital and after they returned home. What a change from one who couldn'tcope with life to a caretaker of 3 chronically 111 people! Ylng Mae visited them frequently and the younger sister accepted the Lord. Her health has improved and she was baptized December 6^^. Liu's mother is

in ICU in the Chiangkam hospital and accepted the Lord a few days ago. Now we're praying for
the father and the older sister that they too might come to know the Lord.

Lai, a Mien student, accepted the Lord and was

baptized when she was in the Chiangkam dorm. Her

father disowned her and told her he wouldn't help her

anymore and not to come home. Lai's mother also

Lai. She and her husband fled, butthey had no place to go. She was 7 months pregnant. They
called InKean, the house father at the Chiangkam dorm, and asked ifthey could come. He sent them money for the bus and gave them a warm welcome. The house father got Lai's husband a job at a motorcycle repair place and their baby amved about 2 months ago. Recently the husband decided to enter the Buddhist priesthood for 3 months in order to get offliquor, cigarettes and drugs. He had studied Buddhism so the house father used the Buddhist scriptures that contain the promise of one who Isto come who will have scars on his hands and feet. They studied together and InKean pointed him to Christ and said Christ could help him to get over his addiction. He decided to trust in Christ so he and his family have been living with the house parents and helping with the garden. They regularly study the Bible and have prayer together. Pray for them all.

God also isworking in the lives ofYeng and her husband Wang who are Mong and camefrom
Laos to Development Village about 7 years ago. She had lost 3 babies all dying about a month after birth. Yeng and Wang believed on the Lord and about a year later had a baby boy who Is
now 6 years old. Life was hard and the husband wasn't true to the Lord but was a womanizer.

Yeng learned to go to the Lord and read His word when the situation seemed impossible. Then his mother came from Laos and lived with them. Life became very bitter especially after the husband's younger brother who was 16 took a wife and brought her home. The sister-in-law refused to help with the work so Yeng had to care for her own husband and 3 chiluien, plus 3 other uncooperative people. Yeng found her solace in reading God's word and prayer. She kept the

faith through it all and now the husband has come back to the Lord and they are studying in the leadership training school. The mother accepted the Lord a few months ago and her life has changed dramatically. I met her at church when I returned to Thailand in May and found a smiling happy woman who loved the Lord. Yeng was full of praise. The Lord has given them another boy who is about 2 months old now. Their rice harvest failed this year^they got only 7 gunny sized bags of rice instead of 60 so they will be short, but they are looking to the Lord to care for them. They do not have Thai citizenship but have papers allowing them to live here. There is a possibility of them getting citizenship or at least papers forthe baby as the government has just made an
announcement regarding this. Pray they may be guided of the Lord and He will meet their needs.
