The first Schlogel mentioned in the records of Neuburg is Christoph Schlogel, who had an illegitimate son named Joseph
Andreas Schlogel, born on 26th of Sept., 1774 with a woman Eva. We do not know where Christoph came from and he is
never mentioned again in Neuburg. Most probably he only lived in Neuburg as a worker or fam-labourer and then moved
on. Further there was no child baptized Eva in Neuburg during the period in question so also Eva is supposed to only have
worked in Neuburg as a milkmaid or farm lass. She is never mentioned again in the records of Neuburg. Perhaps both
belonged to that level of the population that got no permission to marry because of lack of money or property.

February 04, 1799, daughter of BENEDIKT MAYR and VICTORIA. She was born September 04, 1774 in Neuburg an der
Kamel, Brunsback(Bavaria) Germany, and died December 31, 1825 in Neuburg an der Kamel, Brunsback(Bavaria)
Germany.

Notes for JOSEF ANDREAS SCHLOEGEL:

In records from Neuburg, researched by Dr. Georg Hock, Joseph Andreas is described as a day laborer which most probably
means that he was a farmhand. We do not know where and with whom Joseph grew up. We do know that he bought a
house in Neuburg on Jan. 15, 1799, a few months before his marriage to Maria Mayr. This house is still owned by
Leonhard and Paula Schloegel, parents of Anneliese Heiser of Neuburg and Walter Schloegel of Krumbach. Contents of the
purchase contract(State Archive Augsburg, nobility -Vohlin of Frickenhausen, vol. 26, page. 300) not cited literally:
"After the death of Joseph Weilbach and his wife it is decided to sell the existing house for the benefit of the children to
the highest-bidding person. The house is bought by the bricklayer Anton Mayr for and in the name of Joseph Schlogel,
being unmarried and from Neuburg, at a price of 610 Gulden. the bid was legally accepted and the house went to Joseph
Schloegel. "
Thereupon Joseph Schlogel married Maria Mayr, daughter of the brewer and landlord/restaurant owner Benedikt Mayr
of Langenhaslach, house no. 331. Marriage protocol under the rule of the Vohlin of Frickenhausen in Neuburg dated 19th
Jan. 1799(state archive Augsburg, nobility - Vohlin of Frickenhausen, vol. 26, page. 300) contents, not literally:
"Joseph Schloegel and Maria Mayr have purchased the house of Joseph Weilbach by public justice and with all the
burdens laying upon, through Anton Mayr for 610 Guldens. The 5 remaining Weilbach children will receive free residence
in the existing little parlour and the adjacent chamber in case of sickness or being unfit to work. Joseph Schlogel is willing
to marry Maria Mayr, unmarried, from Haslach. The groom brings 74 Gulden into the marriage, apart from the purchased
house. The bride will, in addition to the house, bring 390 Gulden and a dowry befitting her rank into the marriage. They
make completely common goods at the same earnings and losses(community property). In case of death in the absence of
children one third of the entered dowry plus the best "neck" clothes and open chests and wardrobes have to be refunded to
the family of the one deceased."

This story about Barbara was told to me by Dr. Georg Hock, the genealogist who gave me the research on the Schloegel
family from Neuburg an der Kamel. It is also in the emigration records given to me by Dr. Hock. See file on Schloegel,
folder titled " papers from Newburg."
 "Barbara Schloegel unmarried daughter of Joseph Mathias Schloegel, born in Neuburg on 25th July 1832, applies on the
4th of August 1854 with the royal district court of Roggenburg for an officeial police persission for emigration to North
America in order to ameliorate her existence there. Even after the dangers and inconveniences of such a journey were
pointed out to her, she stuck to her decision. She would like to take her illegitimate child of 1/4 year's age with her. She
fulfilled her obligation to attend school, has a good testimony and has a fortune of 300 Gulden which reaches the required
amount. She as no debts.

After having matched the preconditions for emigration to North America she asks for the necessary certificate that would
enable her to make a contract for the overseas journey. the district court decided to establish the requested certificate. In
the court board of the newspaper of Weissenhorn the intention of Barbara Schloegel is published and it is pointed out that
all eventual claims have to be made within 14 days.

Michael Schwaninger, weaver in Hurben, certifies on the 27th of July 1854 as stepfather that he took in Barbara Schloegel
when she was a half year old and that she was an honest, upright, loyal, industrious, diligent and obedient so far. He is
therefore able to give her an impeccable reputation letter.

An excerpt of the book of baptizing of the parish of Neuburg certifies that Maria Barbara Schloegel, legitimate child of
local weaver Joseph Schloegel and his housewife Theresia, nee Zwing, was born on 25th July 1832 at 5 a.m. and was
baptized by chaplain Johann Rinn in the presence of the godfathers Xaver Diem and Alfons Boller according to the
catholic ritual. this Maria Barbara Schloegel has borne an illegitimate child in Krumbach on 12th March, 1854, which
was baptized Rosina.

To the Municipal administration the citizen and weaver Joseph Schloegel reports that his daughter Babete Schloegel,
currently living with her stepfather Michael Schwaninger in Hurben, wants to emigrate to America and that he is willing
to give 200 Gulden for this purpose. the municipal administration confirms that he is able to give that sum for the above
purpose. The administration is not requiring any pawn. It also confirms the good reputation of the unmarried Babete
Schloegel.

The further history of Barbara Schloegel, is she reached America or if her baby daughter survived the sea journey is not
known so far. Facts about the circumstances of that time can be learned from the a.m. book of Wolfgang Knabe."

Notes: As of January 2006, I had tried to research passenger lists from Germany to NO to find out if Barbara did make it
to NO. I was unable to find any information about her or her child.

Kamel. Brunsback Germany, and died December 31, 1895 in NO Louisiana. He married MARIA ANNA(MARGARET)
DETZEL. She was born 1834 in Germany, and died June 04, 1911 in NO Louisiana.

Notes for ANDREAS SCHLOEGEL:

According to family history and newspaper death notice from Democrat Picayune on June 5, 1911, Andrew was a native of
Germany. In NO he lived at 129 N. Peters St. and was a merchant who owned a cigar store. Death Certificate on microfilm
reports cause of death as acute hepatitis.

Census 1880 - Andrew(Andreas) lives at 131 Levee St. He is age 50. His wife Mary is 47. Living with him are his
Children, sons Antoll(most probaby Anton) age 18, Andrew, age 15, Joseph age, 13, George, 8, and his daughter, Barbara
10. John Hensel from Germany age 65 and Antoine Walner from Germany age 63 also live with Andrew but are not related
to him.

Letter written in 1880 by Andreas to brother Anton still in Germany is in a folder marked Schloegel/Daure.

In this letter, Andreas identifies some of his brothers and his children. His address at the time the letter was written is 129
N. Peters St.
In the New Orleans Directory from 1861-1879, Andreas aka Andrew is listed as a cigar maker and seller with a residence
and business at 129 N. Peters.

According to Dr. Hoch, the archivist from Neuburg, Andreas did not appy for the legal papers to emigrate so most probably
he emigrated illegally. It is common knowledge that many immigrants who could not afford to buy the necessary papers for
emigration, traveled to other countries, such as France, and emigrated from there.

According to Daily Picayune of June 5, 1911, Maria Anna, wife of Andrew Schloegel was a native of Germany and a
resident of NO for 53 years. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Society of Holy Trinity Church. Her funeral was held
from her residence at 3120 No. Rampart St. between Clouet and Louisa. Interment was in St. Roch Cemetery. According to
microfilm of death certificate, the cause of death was stomach ulcer.

Maria's date of birth surmised from Census of 1880.

CLAUS January 28, 1884 in Holy Trinity Church, NO Louisiana, daughter of EDWARD CLAUS and ANNA PIERRE. She was
born January 27, 1864 in NO Louisiana.

Anthony Schloegel was a member of Catholic Knights of America. He was an employee of American Sugar Refinery for 30
years. His funeral was held at P.J. Mc Mahon at 4800 Canal St. Services were at St. Maurice Church and interment was at
St. Roch Cemetery. He was living at 5215 Royal St. at the time of his death. Death information taken from obituary in TP.
According to story told to me by Aunt Gerry, Monday was Anthony's day off. He would dress up in a suit and his wife
would dress in a silk dress. They would take the streetcar to Canal St., go to a movie, have lunch, and then go to an
afternoon movie.

Census 1900 - Anton(Anthony) Schloegel lived at 1305 Touro with his wife Catherine born 1864 in La. Children living
with them are Anthony, born Nov. 1885 in La., Sylvester born Jan. 1887 in La., Alma born Feb. 1891in La., and Florence
born Aug. 1892 in La.
Also living at this address were Annie Claus, mother-in-law born Jan. 1833 in Germany; Charles Hoffman a boarder born
Sept. 1869 in Germany and Mary Williams a Servant Dec. 1850 in Virginia.

Census 1920 - Anthony Schloegel is living at 5106 Burgundy. He is 57. His wife, Katharine is 55. His daughter Florence
is 26 and his neice Alma Kontze, 16 are living in the house.

Censes 1930 Anthony is living at 5210 Royall St. He is 68 years of age and was married at age 23. He pays rent $20 a
month. He is a watchman at the sugar refinery. Living with him are his wife, Catharine, 66,( marriage age 20), his son-in-
law Paul Bonnecarre, 46, and his daugher Florence, 37. At the time of marriage Paul was 43 and Florence was 33. Paul's
occupation is listed as farmer and his parents are both from France.

Abattoir, Inc. , 300 Alabo, New Orleans, Louisiana. This information is obtained from a tax statement from 1956. He lived
with his mother and father on Royal St. until he married. He and Frances rented a half double on Forstall St. owned by
Joseph Bachemin, Father of Angele and brother to Constant Bachemin. Every Sunday, Constant and Adele would visit
Grandma Bachemin on Dauphine and then go to Angele and Joe's on Forstall. My father, Paul Bachemin met my mother
because he use to visit his Uncle Joe at the Forstall St. house. Obviously, Paul and Verita knew each other for many years.
The house on Royal St., rented by Anthony's father, was described to me by Aunt Gerry as a shotgun with a porch along one
side which provided private entrances to each bedroom.

Census 1920 - Anthony is 34 married living at 714 Forstall. He works as a laborer at the packing house. His wife, Frances
is 38. Living with them is their daughter Verita, 8, born in La., and Frances' sister, Wilhemina Daure, 27.

Census 1930 - Anthony Schloegel lives at 714 Forstall St.. He pays rent of $15 He is 44 years of age and was married at
age 23. His wife Frances lives with him. She is 48 years of age and was married at age 27. Living with them are their
daughers, Verita, age 18 and Geraldine, age 10, as well as, Frances's sister, Eulalie, age 46 and saleslady at Gus Mayer.

Notes for FRANCES EULALIE DAURE:

My grandmother Frances Daure was deaf, but this condition was not genetic. Her deafness was caused by a fever she had
when she was 18. She was given quinine which caused holes in both eardrums and thence, deafness. Frances did not marry
until she was 27 and had her first child, Verita when she was 32. She had her second child Geraldine when she was 40.

On Eulalie's birth certificate, it is noted that she was not registered until 1889, even though she was born in 1882. The age
of Margaret seems to be too old to bear children, but
the birth certificate and the bible records verify the dates given.
