There are numerous researches, books and articles in this area, Malcolm Gladwell, one of my favorite authors has proposed a theory which he calls the 10,000 hours' rule (Although there are proponents who falsify this theory as well). It basically states that to acquire really world class skills in any field of work, one has to put in at-least 10,000 hours of practice. As per this theory, 8 hours a day, working for 5 days a week means, it on an average would take a single minded, focused person, a little less than 5 years to achieve this. While these numbers may look and sound impractical, the best one can do is to be humble and open to new learning. Try and have ideals and stick to them. If one can earn respect, one sure would earn the monies.
