ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

Oral communication is the ability to talk with others to give and exchange information and ideas such as ask questions, give directions, coordinate with tasks, explain and persuade. Oral communication involves both speaking and listening. Speaking and listening are at the very foundation of literacy.
Good oral communication ability is a vital part of how you relate to others. Oral communication requires confidence, a good vocabulary and a good hold on grammer. Oral communication includes speeches, presentations, discussions and aspects of inter personal communication. I would rate myself 6 out of 10 in oral communication skills. I tend to get nervous when it comes to public speaking or to b precise extempore. I can speak well in public if I have good knowledge of the topic or I am previously prepared for the topic. My vocabulary is also average. If I learn new words I tend to forget them. In one to one communication I am better than public speaking because it requires less confidence and errors may get unidentified in one to one communication. 7 out of 10 times I do not make a mistake in grammar. My usage of tenses is above average. When it comes to public speaking I am afraid of making mistakes, being criticized or losing face in front of others. As I am a graduate from Delhi university , my oral communication skills have not improved in the past three years because no one is interested in oral communication skills in commerce courses of Delhi university. Now, as I am in B school its high time I should improve them. No one can teach you oral communication skills. Practice is the only way to improve them. Preparing for English section of cat( enterance exam) helped me to improve my vocabulary. To improve my knowledge I try to read newspapers daily. Reading helps me to improve my vocabulary. Reading also helps us to express our ideas in a better way and eliminate weakness in language skills. After reading newspaper I find the meaning of the words. I listen to good communicators on you tube. Listening to good communicators is one of the best way to improve your communication skills. I stand in front of mirrors and speak on topics so that I can get to know my expressions and body language.

WRITING SKILLS
Preparing for summarising gds after my cat result helped me in improving my writing skills. The best way I follow to improve my writing skills is that I write which I do not need to show to anyone .It helps to grow my confidence.Practice makes a man perfect and this is what I try to do. To improve my knowledge I read a newspaper the times of India. It also helps me to improve my vocabulary. It helps me in a lot of things which are important for writing like- clarifying thoughts, identifying the key points etc. How one should compose on a strong starting and ending and how one should help key points to stand out is also what I try to learn by reading a newspaper. Writing to the point i.e. short paragraphs and sentences is also what a newspaper can help u learn. Writing according to the audience is what I am trying to learn from magazines and novels. It has also taught me to create an outline and follow AIDA( ATTENTION, INTEREST, DESIRE AND ACTION) The first sentence which I write in any writing, I try to make it intresting so that it attracts the reader. When I complete my writing I read it twice to identify and correct my mistakes. The things which I check areis it neat and elegant? Is it simple, direct and lucid? Is the first sentence intresting? Is there any repetition? Reading the docoument after writing it and correcting In the world of work, while verbal communication is important, the written word is even more so because what is said verbally may be forgotten but what is written survives for decades. An error of oral communication may get unnoticed but an error of an email will never get unnoticed. Writing skills means writing reports,emails, articles , letters, grant application,press release etc. So writing requires knowledge, vocabulary, grammer, spellings etc. The first thing which we want after our b school is placements and to get that we need a good CV. So writing skills are a must. I will rate myself 6 out of 10. There are 3 main elements of writing 1) 2) 3) Structure ( the way the content is laid out) Style (the way it is written) Content ( what you are writing about)

If I know about the topic, I end up writing quiet well. I am good with grammer and spellings. But if I dont know about the topic or when I have no idea about the content the problem arises. I end up writing less than that is required. I am also a bit uncomfortable when It is a formal writing. I fall short of words. I get confused between how formal or informal the writing should be. I can write stories on topics which I know like politics and sports. So knowledge of the topic is very important. I am not good or below average when it comes to syle. errors is alwys beneficial. I have kept al my writings at one place. By keeping it at one place and keeping it organized helps me to know that how I am improving. I am trying that writing daily becomes one of my habit. I have improved in the past 1 year but a lot still needs to be done.
