This book outlines only the process for default installation based on a single Unix computer. The Components
The full CONTROL-M solution involves the following products: Enterprise Controlstation (ENTERPRISE/CS) The tool for GUI-based task (job) definition, and tracking. CONTROL-M/Server The central processing component. CONTROL-M/Agent The job execution component.
In the default installation that is described in this document, you will need to install:

CONTROL-M components are installed using a number of different compact discs (CDs). Each CD is assigned a serial number prefixed by FD. The following table describes the CDs that you will need for installation on the supported Unix platforms. Platform

Choose the appropriate table, and follow the instructions to ensure that system requirements for ENTERPRISE/CS are satisfied before you perform the installation procedure (in Phase 3).

Media Drive Communication Adapter Software 1 CD-ROM drive required. Any TCP/IP adapter is acceptable. The following software must be installed and operational at the site prior to Installing ENTERPRISE/CS and CONTROL-M: AIX 4.3.3 maintenance level 06 or higher IY14529 - VisualeAge C++ 5.0.0.4 Runtime PTF. For Oracle:
To determine if your window manager meets the necessary requirements, enter the xclock& command. If a clock is not displayed, then your window manager is not configured correctly.
How do I check It?

Use the following command to check the maintenance level for AIX version 4.3.3 on your computer: instfix -i | grep 4330 Use the following command to check which patches have been installed on your computer: instfix -ik <name_of_APAR> Where <name_of_APAR> is the name of the patch that you are checking for.

It is recommended that you ask your system administrator to modify the necessary parameters. If you must make these changes yourself, follow the instructions provided below very carefully. Note: If changes are made to kernel parameters, the Unix machine will be have to be rebooted at the end of this procedure. Use the following steps to view and modify system parameters on a HP-UX computer: 1. Log on as user root. 2. Type sam and press <Enter>. 3. Use the down arrow to select Kernel Configuration and press <Enter>. 4. Use the down arrow to select Configurable Parameters and press <Enter> a list of parameters is displayed. 5. To change the value of a kernel parameter: Use the down arrow to move the cursor to the parameter. Press the spacebar to select the parameter. Press <Tab> to activate the menu bar Press the right arrow until the Actions menu is selected. Use the down arrow to select the Modify Configurable Parameters option. Press <Enter> Use the <Tab> key to go to the Formula/Value field and enter the desired value. (if the default value is more than needed, do not change it.) Use the <Tab> key to go to the [OK] button and press <Enter> 6. When you have finished modifying all relevant parameters, use the <Tab> key to activate the menu bar. 7. Use the down arrow to select the Choose Process New Kernel option using down arrow and press <Enter>. (This action will reboot the Unix machine. It may take a few minutes.)

The following software must be installed and operational at the site prior to installing ENTERPRISE/CS and CONTROL-M: Solaris 2.6 with the 105591-09 patch or later (Sun C++ 5.1 runtime) Solaris 2.7 with 106980-09 patch or later (thread lib) and 106327-08 or later (Sun C++ 5.1 runtime). Solaris 2.8 with the 108434-01 patch or later (Sun C++ 5.1 runtime)
For Oracle:
Use the latest kernel patch from Sun Microsystems. Solaris 2.6 requires at least kernel jumbo patch revision #105181-15 for successful installation of Release 2 (8.1.6). X-windows must be installed on the system from where the Installer is run. Use any Sun-supported X-windows server that supports Motif (for example, dtwm, twm, olwm). Solaris Operating System Packages: SUNWarc, SUNWbtool, SUNWlibm, SUNWlibms, SUNWsprot, SUNWtoo, SUNWhea. The following executables must be present in the /usr/ccs/bin directory: make, ar, ld, nm.
How do I check It?

Use the following command to check the version of the Solaris operating system on your computer: uname -a Use the following command to check for patches on your computer: showrev -p | grep <name_of_patch> <name_of_patch> is the name of the patch that you are checking for. Use the following command to check for packages on your computer: pkginfo | grep <name_of_package> <name_of_package> is the name of the package that you are checking for.

Add/modify the parameters listed above. 4. Reboot the computer. 5. In the console window, run the xhost + command.

Phase 3 Gathering Information
Certain information should be determined before you actually run the CONTROL-M solution installation procedures. Check the parameters that are described in tables below, and use these parameter values to help your installation process (Phase 4) run more smoothly. Some of the parameters in these tables may require input from your system administrator or your database administrator.
Note
This document assumes that you are performing a default installation. Only parameters whose values must be checked before a default installation are listed in the table provided below. For more information about other parameter of the installation, see Chapters 6 and 7 of the CONTROL-M/Server for Unix Administrator Guide and the Enterprise Controlstation Installation Guide. Acrobat (PDF) versions of these books are provided on the FD4466 CD in the Documents directory.

Parameters for ENTERPRISE/CS Server Components
The following table describes parameters that should be checked before installation of ENTERPRISE/CS Server components on the Unix computer. If any of the listed ports are not available, default installation is not possible, and other ports will need to be specified during a custom installation.

Description
You must verify that the specified ports are available for: The Orbix server - and Either a Sybase database server, or an Oracle database server If the default ports are not available consult you system administrator. These ports are mandatory for the default CONTROL-M installation that is described in this book.
How to check it
The following command checks if a specific port is available: netstat -na | grep .<portnumber> where <portnumber> is the number of the desired port. If nothing is returned as a result of this command, the port is available.

Client component parameters can be checked only after other components of the CONTROL-M solution have been installed. These parameters are described in detail in Step 4 of Phase 4 below.

Step 1: Installing ENTERPRISE/CS Server Components

In this step, you will install ENTERPRISE/CS server components and a dedicated (new) database server on a Unix computer. Two separate procedures are provided below; one for installation with a Sybase database, and one for installation with an Oracle database.

The steps shown below are for a default installation. For more information about installation of ENTERPRISE/CS components on Unix, see Chapters 8 and 9 of the Enterprise Controlstation Installation Guide.
For Sybase

Creating an Entry in the Services Map for NIS If NIS is used at your site, request that your NIS administrator create the following entry for CONTROL-M/Agent in the Services map before proceeding with the installation.

During installation, you will need to replace this name, with the hostname of the Unix computer.

Installation Steps
Log on to a user account belonging to the Administrators group. Put the CD in the CD-ROM drive. Using Windows Explorer, select the drive containing the installation media and double-click SETUP.EXE. The ENTERPRISE/CS splash screen is displayed. After a few seconds, the Welcome window of the installation procedure is displayed: Click Next to continue the installation. The Choose Destination Location window is displayed: Click Next to choose the default destination (D:\Ecsnt) and to continue the installation. The Select Program Folder window is displayed: Specify the program folder to which Enterprise Controlstation program icons are to be added. The default folder, Enterprise Controlstation, is displayed. You can specify a new folder name in the Program Folders text box or select one from the Existing Folders list. Click Next to continue the installation. The Setup Type window is displayed: Select the Custom installation type. Click Next to continue the installation. The Select Components window is displayed. This window lists all of the Short Product Name components. Select the following components: Enterprise Controlstation GUI Administration Facility CONTROL-M Desktop Reporting Facility Command Line Interface

Select the Oracle option and click Next. If Oracle components previously existed on the computer, the following prompt is displayed:
When Oracle components are installed, configuration information from the previous Oracle installation can be overridden. To install Oracle using your existing configuration defaults, click Yes. To install Oracle with new configuration defaults, click No.

Click No to continue. The Instance Properties window is displayed. Enter a name for the ENTERPRISE/CS database in the Instance text box. Enter the hostname of the computer on which the existing Oracle Server is installed. Enter the port number on the host computer used by the Oracle Server. Click Next. The Database User Properties window is displayed. Enter the username and password for the ENTERPRISE/CS database owner (DBO). (See Table 5-3, Installation Parameters ENTERPRISE/CS Components for Microsoft Windows, on page 5-33.) Reenter the password in the Password confirmation text box. Click Next. The Start Copying Files window is displayed. This window displays the Oracle components that will be copied to a specified location on the Microsoft Windows machine.

Click Next to complete configuration of the Oracle Server.
The Enterprise Controlstation Server Location window is displayed. Specify the host name of the ENTERPRISE/CS Server. This window is not displayed if you are installing a GUI server or if a GUI server is already installed on the computer. It is also not displayed during a Full installation. Click Next to continue. For Sybase only: The Server Properties window is displayed. Enter the Server Location and Port number. Click OK.

The Reporting Facility Global Template Path window is displayed. If you wish to store templates for the Reporting Facility, enter the path to the directory in which the Reporting Facility global templates will be stored. This directory should be Read-only for regular ENTERPRISE/CS users.

Click Next. A window is displayed, asking for the Orbix 2000 host name and port number. For more information about these parameters, see the table on page 5-34. Enter the appropriate values.

The files are installed and a progress bar is displayed indicating that a specific ENTERPRISE/CS component is being installed. The Install Shield Wizard Complete window is displayed.

Upon successful installation of all selected ENTERPRISE/CS components, the Install Shield Wizard Complete window is displayed. Select whether to restart the computer at this time (Yes) or restart at a later time (No). If you select Yes, be sure that there are no disks or CDs in external drives. Click Finish. There will be a delay of a few minutes while the installation process prepares files for installation.

Phase 5 Post-Installation Configuration
After you have completed all the installation procedures described in Phase 4, there are certain configuration tasks that must be performed. These tasks ensure that the various elements of the CONTROL-M scheduling solution are able to communicate with each other.
On the Unix Computer

Perform the following steps on the Unix computer on which you installed CONTROL-M/Server and Agent and the ENTERPRISE/CS server components:

Log in to the unix account for ENTERPRISE/CS. Use one of the following commands to verify that the database server is active: For Sybase: isql -U <ecs_user> -P <password> For Oracle: sqlplus <ecs_user>/<password>
where <ecs_user> is the user name under which ENTERPRISE/CS was installed, and <password> is that users password for ENTERPRISE/CS (Default: password). If the database server is active an appropriate prompt is displayed.

Type quit to exit the database server. Use the following steps to verify that the Orbix service is active.

Choose Component => New Component from the menu. The Component dialog box is displayed.

In the Type field, choose GUI Server to register the ENTERPRISE/CS GUI server that you installed on the Unix computer. When filling in the fields in the Component Dialog box note the following: The Desired State must be UP. The Machine Type is Unix. The Machine name must be the host name of the Unix computer on which you installed the ENTERPRISE/CS GUI server.
For more information about the fields in this dialog box, see page 3-33 of the Enterprise Controlstation Administrator Guide.
Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 to register the Global Alerts Server (GAS). Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 to register the Global Condition Server (GCS). On the windows desktop click the following icon:

Enter the ENTERPRISE/CS username and password (these are the same as the username and password that you specified in Step 2 on page 6-2). You are also requested for the Hostname. This refers to the hostname of the computer on which you installed the ENTERPRISE/CS GUI Server (the Unix machine). Use the following steps to create a CONTROL-M definition for the CONTROL-M/Server that you installed in Phase 4.

Choose Tools => Communications => Administration. The Communication Administration window is displayed. Click New. The CONTROL-M Definition window is displayed.

Fill in all mandatory fields in this window. Note: Specify the port number (default: 2370) that is used by CONTROL-M/Server to listen for communication from ENTERPRISE/CS (see Table 4-2, Installation Parameters CONTROL-M/Server and Agent, on page 4-3). Ensure that the Enable checkbox in the upper left-hand corner of the CONTROL-M Definition window, is selected.

Choose Component => New Component from the menu. The Component dialog box is displayed. In the Type field, choose the name of ENTERPRISE/CS gateway for communication with the CONTROL-M that was defined in Step 9 on page 6-3. When filling in the fields in the Component Dialog box note the following: The name of the component ID must be the same as the CONTROL-M name defined in Step 9 on page 6-3. The Desired State must be UP. The Machine Type is Unix. The Machine name must be the host name of the Unix computer on which you installed the ENTERPRISE/CS GUI server.
