<key> When describing keystrokes, angle brackets are used to enclose the name of a key (for example, <F1>). When two keys are joined with + as in <Shift>+<F1>, hold down <Shift> while pressing <F1>. This represents an option selection sequence. For example, Users and Groups => Groups => Add means that you first select Users and Groups from the menu bar. Select the Groups option from the submenu. Finally, select the Add option from the Groups submenu.

Phase 3 Gathering Information

Certain information should be determined before you actually run the CONTROL-M solution installation procedures. Check the parameters that are described in tables below, and use these parameter values to help your installation process (Phase 4) run more smoothly. Some of the parameters in these tables may require input from your system administrator or your database administrator.
Note

This document assumes that you are performing a default installation. Only parameters whose values must be checked before a default installation are listed in the table provided below. For more information about other parameter of the installation, see Chapters 6 and 7 of the CONTROL-M/Server for Unix Administrator Guide and the Enterprise Controlstation Installation Guide. Parameters for ENTERPRISE/CS Server Components

The following table describes parameters that should be checked before installation of ENTERPRISE/CS Server components on the Unix computer. If any of the listed ports are not available, default installation is not possible, and other ports will need to be specified during a custom installation.

These ports are mandatory for the default CONTROL-M installation that is described in this book.

How to check it
The following command checks if a specific port is available: netstat -na | grep .<portnumber> where <portnumber> is the number of the desired port. If nothing is returned as a result of this command, the port is available.

Step 2: Installing CONTROL-M/Agent for Unix

In this step, you will install the CONTROL-M/Agent for Unix on the same Unix computer that was used in the previous step. Use the following steps to install the CONTROL-M/Agent:
Step 1

Define a CONTROL-M/Agent User The procedure for defining a user varies according to the type of Unix system running on the Agent platform. Procedures for various types of Unix systems are detailed in Appendix A of the CONTROL-M/Agent Administrator Guide.

Step 2

Creating an Entry in the Services Map for NIS If NIS is used at your site, request that your NIS administrator create the following entry for CONTROL-M/Agent in the Services map before proceeding with the installation.
<servicename> <portnumber>/<protocol> #CONTROL-M/Agent

The elements of this entry are described in Table 5-1, Elements of the Services Map Entry, on page 5-9.
Note

For Solaris and AIX platforms only: Whether or not an entry should be created in the Services map depends on the search path for the services file. For more information, see Determining the Search Path on page 2-3 of the CONTROL-M/Agent Administrator Guide.

Table 5-1
