Work Included The work of this Section includes the provision of all labour, materials, equipment and services required to fabricate and install architectural precast concrete units, as indicated on the drawings, as specified herein and as required for a complete project.

Standards Association according to CSA A251 for Class A products. Erection of precast architectural concrete elements shall be supervised and directed by an experienced fulltime superintendent who is thoroughly familiar with the type of work being installed.

Design Criteria Design precast elements and connections/attachments to carry handling and service loads. Design precast elements to carry loads in accordance with OBC 1997 and other applicable codes.

Tolerances Tolerance of precast elements to the applicable requirements of CSA A23.4.

Submittals General: Submit each item in this Article according to the Conditions of the Contract and the applicable Division 01 Specification Sections. Shop Drawings: .1 Submit detailed calculations and design drawings for typical precast elements and connections for Consultant review prior to manufacture. .2 Precast architectural concrete elements, including all related connections and fastenings, shall be designed by a structural engineer permanently licensed to practise in the Province of Ontario. Each shop drawing submitted shall bear the stamp and signature of the aforesaid structural engineer. .3 Submit shop drawings in accordance with CAN3-A23.4 and CAN3-A23.3. Include the following items: .1 Design calculations for each item. .2 Tables and bending diagrams of reinforcing steel. .3 Camber. .4 Finishing schedules. .5 Methods of handling and erection. .6 Openings, sleeves, inserts and related reinforcement. .4 Include dimensions, tolerances, fixing and joint details, details as they pertain to waterproofing and installation, indications of finish. Samples: .1 Submit a range of at least three (3) minimum 250 mm x 250 mm x 50 mm thick samples, representative of the range of colour and texture of precast concrete to be expected in the finished work. .2 Fabricate samples from actual materials and finishes to be used in the finished work. .3 The reviewed samples will form a standard of acceptance for the variation in colour/texture in the finished installation.

Delivery, Storage and Handling Store materials in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. Block up level on spacers to provide air circulation. Keep units covered with polyethylene sheeting to avoid overweathering in relation to other units.

Warrant the work of this Section, in accordance with the General Conditions of the Contract, but for five (5) years. Promptly make good defects and deficiencies which become apparent during the warranty period, including making good of work damaged as a result of a defect or deficiency in this work. Defects shall include, but not be limited to: .1 Shrinkage, warpage and other deformation of units. .2 Deterioration due to porosity, excessive water absorption and the like. .3 Cracking, spalling, chipping, crazing, pitting of concrete; popping of concrete aggregates and development of other surface irregularities; sagging or heaving of concrete, failure of faces to remain plumb, true and level across joints. .4 Bleeding, staining or discolouration of work of this or other Sections which is attributable to the metalwork provided by this Section. .5 Fading or discolouration other than due to normal weathering. .6 Failure of anchorage system, corrosion of metal components, loosening of anchor connections and the like.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 .1 .2

Materials Cement, aggregates, water, admixtures: to CSA A23.4 and CSA A23.1. Use same brands and source of cement and aggregate for entire project to ensure uniformity of colouration and other mix characteristics. Reinforcing steel: to CAN/CSA G30.18. Anchors and supports: to CAN/CSA-G40.21, Type 300W, galvanized after fabrication. Welding materials: to CSA W48. Galvanizing: hot dipped galvanizing with minimum zinc coating of 610 g/m5 to CSA G164. Zinc-rich primer: SSPC-Paint 12.

Concrete Mixes Proportion normal density concrete in accordance with CAN/CSA-A23.1, to give the following properties: .1 Minimum compressive strength at 28 days: 35 MPa. .2 Class of exposure: Class 1. Mix to provide a finished concrete to match the exposed cast-in place concrete specified in Section 03300 "Cast-in-Place Concrete"

Fabrication Fabricate units in accordance with CAN3-A23.4.

Fabricate units in the shop in accordance with best shop practice. Give due notice for inspection and testing. Ensure that surfaces to receive sealants are smooth, full-faced, free from laitence and contaminants, to provide a suitable surface base for adhesion. Remove contaminants, including, but not limited to, form release agents, retarders, and similar items. Design and attach anchors and inserts to precast concrete elements to carry design loads. Galvanize anchors, steel embedments after fabrication and touch up with zinc-rich primer after welding.

Fastenings Supply all fastenings.

Finishes To match the exposed cast-in place concrete specified in Section 03300 "Cast-in-Place Concrete"

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 .1

General Do precast concrete work in accordance with CAN3-A23.4.

Erection Non-cumulative erection tolerances in accordance with CSA-A23.4. Set units straight, level and square with plumb faces.

Carefully align and maintain constant-width caulked joints. Apply sealant to precast panels to manufacturer's recommendations. Securely fasten units in place as indicated on the reviewed shop drawings. Clean field welds with wire brush and touch-up galvanized finish with two coats of zinc-rich primer. Welding Do welding in accordance with CSA W59.

Cleaning Obtain approval of cleaning methods from the Consultant before cleaning soiled precast concrete surfaces. Clean soiled precast surfaces to the Consultant's satisfaction. Repair or replace panels which have visual defects.
