Shop and erection drawings shall bear the seal and signature of a professional engineer registered to design structures in the Province of the Place of the Work. SUBMITTALS - TEST REPORTS/CERTIFICATES Submit test reports for concrete quality control for each unit supplied as part of the work of this Section as specified in CAN3 A23.4. Connections and special prefabricated inserts may be required to be tested as part of the work of this Section. Submit complete design calculations, if requested. Prior to commencement of the work, and at no extra cost to the Owner, provide the following certificates prepared by an approved inspection company: Aggregates: Certification that coarse and fine aggregates proposed for the work comply with Specification requirements. Cement: Results of physical and chemical tests required by CAN/CSA-A5. Reinforcing steel: Test data from a Canadian testing company that each size and grade of reinforcing steel meets Specification requirements. Where reinforcing steel is of Canadian manufacture, suitable mill test reports will be sufficient. QUALITY ASSURANCE - QUALIFICATIONS Manufacturer of precast concrete stairs shall be certified in accordance with the requirements of CSA A251 class AC, PC, SC products unless otherwise approved by the Consultant. Companies with a proven record of satisfactory installation on projects similar in size and nature will be acceptable subject to acceptance by the Consultant. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING Handle and store material in such a manner that no damage or soiling will be done to the materials or to the structure. Transport precast concrete units carefully to prevent damage. Protect depressions, holes and reglets from water and ice during freezing weather.

Store precast concrete units clear of ground, in manner to prevent stress, warp, twist and to afford free movement of air on all sides of each unit. Secure waterproof covering entirely over each stockpile when work is not in progress. Protect stockpile at all times from weather, dirt and damage. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Air and surface temperatures shall be minimum 7C during grouting and temperature shall be maintained above this minimum until grout has cured. PART 2) - PRODUCTS

Batch cement and aggregates used in the manufacture of the concrete carefully and separately by weight. Fabricate precast concrete stairs using steel forms in accordance with reviewed shop drawings, with tight corners and joints, correctly aligned without indentations or protrusions. Notify the Consultant when the first set of precast concrete forms are ready for Consultant's review. Fabricate units true to dimensions, plumb and square, in true planes, with accurate definition at corners and arrises, free from warp, waves, twist, cracks, checks, chips and nicks or broken edges, spalled or harsh areas. Provide minimum 19 mm (3/4") concrete cover over reinforcing steel, with full bond. Accurately position reinforcing steel and tie together to maintain position during casting; provide recesses, inserts and built-ins required. Mark each precast concrete unit to correspond to identification mark on shop drawings for location. Mark units with date cast. Marks shall be in approved location, concealed in the finished work. Perform welding in accordance with CSA W59 and CSA W186. Weld steel using qualified welders fully certified in accordance with requirements of CSA W47.1 and W55.3. Take care during welding to minimize the effect of welding heat. Design welds to prevent tearing at ends of welds. EXAMINATION Before commencing installation, examine the work of other Sections to which the precast concrete work will be attached or on which it will be supported. Ensure that bearing surfaces are clean, smooth and level, and that provision has been made for proper anchorage. Report discrepancies in accuracy and suitability in the location, bearing and retaining of structural members which will adversely affect the installation and permanency of the work of this Section. Commencement of installation shall indicate acceptance of the work of other Sections, upon which the work of this Section depends. INSTALLATION Comply with local and provincial safety regulations. Install units level, straight, plumb, square and true. Shim as required using acceptable materials and methods. Provide connections which can be adjusted to accommodate the tolerances specified for the structure. Refer to Section 03300, Cast-In-Place Concrete and Section 05120, Structural Steel. Adequately fasten precast concrete units in place to structure by positive mechanical means; weld connections, use bolts with lock washers or tack-weld nut to bolt. Do not cut openings in precast concrete units on site unless authorized by the Consultant. Grout and finish flush, voids and joints between precast concrete units and structure at top and bottom of stair units.
