This is a case study led forum designed directly for the Australian Government and addresses the unique aspects that it takes to tailor, implement and maintain a knowledge management programme for the public sector. In todays fast paced world where talent comes and goes, what can be more valuable for an organisation than each individuals unique journey - shaped by experiences, failures and successes. Capturing this journey effectively and sharing it inventively can dramatically improve an organisations productivity and growth, and it is this wealth of learning that makes almost everyone today, an invaluable knowledge worker.

AGENDA

Knowledge Management for the Australian Government

10-11 October 2013, Rydges Capital Hill, Canberra
When organisations function unaware of what they already know, they lose precious time delving in tasks that may have already been executed, instead of enhancing them. While most government bodies already practice some form of knowledge management, very rarely is the process and policy structured or steam-lined. Challenges in the form of cultural and physical proximity, as well as cross departmental, institutional and jurisdiction continue to exist, presenting a fresh burst of issues at every juncture.

Introducing Social Network Analysis for Business

Registration: 12.30 pm Workshop starts: 1.00 pm Workshop ends: 4.00 pm Facilitated by: Graham Durant-Law, Owner and chief scientist, HyperEdge Pty Ltd About the workshop: Social network analysis techniques detect patterns of social ties and relationships among people, to provide both a visual and a mathematical analysis of human relationships. The usual intent is to identify those individuals who are the central connecters, knowledge brokers, and boundary spanners of the organisation. A central connecter is someone who is highly connected to many others in the network, who may be either a key facilitator or a gatekeeper; a broker is someone who communicates across subgroups; and a boundary spanner is a person who connects a department with other departments. This half-day seminar introduces participants to social network analysis, as a means to empirically measure and visualise how their organisation really works. In particular, it shows how social network analysis can identify key people and the communication roles they play. These results can This workshop will: Provide an introduction to Social Network Analysis in a business context; Explain the differences between social, organisational, and business network analysis; Provide some examples of where social network analysis is being used in business; List some of the visualisation and analysis tools that are available, and describe their strengths and weaknesses; About the workshop leader:
