Receiving the BATEXPO 2012 Award by Muzaffar U. Siddique, Chairman, BUFT & Managing Director, Simco from Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina(BUFT) BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology
The Chairman of Board of Trustees of BUFT Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique has received the BATEXPO 2012 Award from Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh for his outstanding performance in exports on behalf of Simco Group and also for the role in the creation of BUFT. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT, Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Managing Dircetor, Simco Group is one of the pioneers in the Garment Sector of Bangladesh. He has a great contribution for the creation and development of BUFT. He is still giving relentless efforts for building BUFT as a centre of excellence in fashion, textile and RMG education. Mr. Siddique has done his graduation and post graduation from the University of Dhaka in Finance Department in the year 1975. Apart from a successful entrepreneur, Mr. Siddique has been associated with many social organizations such as Dhaka Club, Golf Club, Gulshan Club, Uttara Club. He is a donor member of Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) and life member of the Dhaka University Finance Alumni Association.

With this competition, the standard in fashion designing in Bangladesh could be prompted to the next level, expected the organizers.

BATEXPO- an annual exposition of Bangladesh world-class apparels organized by BGMEA began in Dhaka on 12 December, 2012 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. BUFT participated in the event through a stall showcasing the activities of the university. BUFT students also took part along with others in the grand fashion show. Visitors to the stall and the viewers of fashion show appreciated the students of BUFT for their high quality performances. Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladsh, Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the event as the chief guest. Honorable Leader of Opposition and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was present at the closing ceremony on 13th December 2012 as the chief guest.

Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), Bangladesh, to promote and strengthen collaboration with BUFT in the field of apparel, fashion & textile education for the Bangladeshs apparel industr y. BUFT and Liberec University agreed to cooperate to develop academic, professional & cultural exchange of students, faculty and research staff, curriculum, product & design development, credit transfer, joint exhibition and other activities between two universities. The signing ceremony took place at the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, organized by BWTG, BEST Program of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Before signing the MoU, Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT gave a presentation and expressed his willingness to strengthen education and research collaboration between BUFT and Technical University of Liberec. He invited Vice-Rector of Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic to visit BUFT, Bangladesh. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor (designate) of BUFT gave Power Point presentation on the overall activities of BUFT. Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT and Ing. Jana Drasorova, Ph.D, Vice-Rector of Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, signed the MoU on behalf of their Universities. Commerce Secretary, GOB, Mr. Md. Ghulam Hussain who was the head of delegation witnessed the signing ceremony.

Vice Chancellor also apprised the Chairman about the current activities of BUFT. UGC Chairman advised BUFT officials to support the education and training through providing quality education not only to regular students, but also to professionals in the RMG sector. He said that BUFT can also provide certificate and diploma courses in addition to its regular academic programs.
Professor Dr. Syed Masud Husain joins as the first Vice Chancellor of BUFT
Professor Dr. Syed Masud Husain joined as the first Vice Chancellor of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) on July 1, 2012. He is a selection grade Professor in the Department of Accounting & Information Systems of University of Dhaka. He joined Dhaka University as a lecturer on 14th January 1976 after completing Masters Degree in the year 1975. He stood first in the SSC Examination of Commerce Group in the year 1967 and was awarded Presidential Gold Medal. He completed HSC from Dhaka Government College in 1969. All through his academic career, he was placed in the first division/class. He also earned a degree in Law in 1977 from Dhaka University and a PhD from Banaras Hindu University in the year 1983 under the Government of India Scholarship. He became a Professor in the same department in 1992 at the age of 39. Later he was awarded the prestigious Senior Fulbright Fellowship of US government to complete Post-Doctoral research from Cornell University, USA. Professor Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan joined BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology, Dhaka on November 1, 2012 as its Pro- Vice Chancellor. Before joining as Pro-Vice Chancellor, he was the Principal of BIFT from March 15, 2012. He is a renowned Textile Engineer turned educationist having 25 years of experience in teaching, educational planning and management, education and industrial consultancy, project management, research, process, product and technology development. Professor Khan did his B. Sc. in Textile Engineering from the University of Dhaka, M.Sc. and Ph.D. from University of Manchester, UK in the same field. Professor Khan served in the textile industry (BEXIMCO group, J.K group, etc.) of the country in various positions such as General Manager of textile mills. Then he left the industry for the purpose of dissemination of textile education. He served in various universities including Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Primeasia University, Southeast University etc., as a faculty member, Professor and Head of the department of Textile Engineering. He received the fellowship of the Textile Institute, UK which is a rare honour for a textile professional.

University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh team headed by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mohabbat Khan visited BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) on 27th August 2012. Other members of the UGC team were: Dr. Faruk Khan Masud and Mr. S.K. Khan Jahan Ali. A detailed checklist as per instruction letter of UGC was handed over to the team along with all supporting papers. They went around BUFT campus to see different activities and were very impressed by the present standard and performance of the BUFT. After they submitted a very favorable report to UGC for allowing academic programs at BUFT, the UGC permitted BUFT to admit students from September, 2013.

Mr. Mohamed Mijarul Quayes, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the Mood Board Exhibition and also distributed prizes among the winners. In this competition, st nd rd students of 092 batch of FDT Dept. Sadia Afrin was awarded 1 prize. Bushra Ahmed and Sulov Barua won 2 and 3 prizes respectively. Mr. Muzaffar U-Siddique, Chairman and Mr. Reaz-Bin Mahmood, Vice Chairman (Finance) of the Board of Trustees of BUFT were also present in the ceremony. Dignitaries from Government, Non-Government organizations and RMG sector attended the function. The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Vice Chancellor of BUFT. Prof. Dr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Faculty members, Officials and Students of BUFT were also present on the occasion. She was born and brought up in village Vanua, Gazipur Cantonment Joydebpur. She did her SSC from Savar Cantonment Board High School in the year 2006 in Business Studies and HSC from Mofazzal-Momena Chakladar Mohila College at Saver in the year 2008. Her father Molla Mohammad Aftab Uddin is a service holder and mother is a house wife. She grew up in a very cultural environment. She always loved fashion trend. Mainly fashion is her passion. So, finally she chose BUFT as her career goal. She believes, BUFT is the best renowned University for RMG related education. Fashion Design & Technology is her passion and she wants to build up her career as a renowned fashion designer and serve in the RMG sector. She is very delighted to be the winner in the first position at the BUFT Mood Board Competion-12. She has planned to participate both in national and international design competitions in the near future. She is grateful indeed to all her teachers and friends who inspired her in this regard.
She was born in 1991 in village Chandanshar, P.O & P.S-Akhaura and Dist. B. Baria. She did her SSC from Shaheed Anwar Gils School & College in the year 2006 in Business Studies and HSC from Dhaka Commerce College at Dhaka in the year 2008 respectively. Her father S.K. Billal Ahmed is a businessman and mother is a house wife. She always wanted to get herself admitted into Fashion Design & Technology at BUFT. When she informed her father about her intention, her father liked the idea very much and admitted her in Fashion Design &Technology (FDT) of BUFT. She is very delighted to be the winner in the second position at the BUFT Mood Board Competion-12. She wants to build up her career as a creative fashion designer in the RMG sector. She has also plan to receive higher education abroad She acknowledges the role of all her teachers, friends and family members who inspired her for this success.
In 2009, he got admitted to BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) in the department of Fashion Design & Technology (FDT) and started a new life in a much more disciplined manner. He is very delighted to be the winner in the third position at the BUFT Mood Board Competion-12. He passed SSC in science group from St. Gregorys High School, Dhaka in 2006 and HSC in science from Udayan Uchcha Madhymik Bidyalaya, Dhaka in 2008. He was born in 1989 at village Tatenagar, P.O-Natun-Hat, P.S-Raujan and Dist. Chittagong. His father Mr. Dhirendra Barua is a business man and mother is a house wife. He wants to build up his career as an entrepreneur. He believes, BUFT is providing a platform to fulfill his goal. The environment of BUFT is very warm and cozy, excellent educational quality and everyone is very helpful. He is proud to be a part of the BUFT family.
Achievement Award:
Ching Weng Chowdhury, ID 091-25-101 and Rayed Barkat, ID 091-25-130 the students of Fashion Design Technology (FDT) department of batch 091 of the BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) have been awarded with the 1st place & 2nd place in a graphic design competition -2012. The competition was jointly organized by TESCO and Interstoff Asia Essential of Bangladesh. Total 80 students of 091 -FDT-1 and 091 -FDT-2 of BUFT participated in this competition.
He was born and brought up in village Pankhaiya, Khagrachari in a Boudha family. He did his SSC and HSC from Fauzdarhat Cadet College in Chittagong in the year 2005 and 2007 in Science group respectively. His father Kyathoway Chowdhury is a business man and mother is a house wife. He grew up in a very cultural and natural environment. He wants to build up his career as a renowned Graphic Fashion Designer and serve in the RMG sector in Bangladesh. BUFT has given him the platform to reach his dreams of future.

Seminar on Quality, Environment, Occupational Health, Corporate & Social Responsibility and Trend and Innovations for Ready Made Garments jointly organized by BUFT, UNIDO, BWTG-BEST Programme & EU/NORAD
A seminar was jointly organized by BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and UNIDO, BWTG-BEST Programme & EU/NORAD at the BUFT auditorium on July 14, 2012 on Integrated Management System: Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Corporate Social Responsibility and ``Trend and Innovations for Ready Made Garments. Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Siddique, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) graced the seminar as the chief guest. He expressed his satisfaction about the quality education at BUFT and hoped that this great university can perform the big responsibility of fostering RMG education in the country. Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Chairman, Board of Trustees, BUFT as the special guest stated that the aim of the BUFT is to develop as a centre of excellence for producing technically competent human resources through higher education, research and development to serve the nation. Prof. Dr. Marie Louise Klotz, President, Rhine-Well University, Germany and Prof. Rudlof Haug, Dean, Dept. of Textile & Clothing Technology, Niederrhein University of Applied Science, Germany delivered the key note presentations. They emphasized the importance of using integrated management system to develop the RMG sector. They also mentioned that introduction of standardized time system during all manufacturing processes, international standard designs (ISD) are also important to improve efficiency, quality, environment, health and productivity. The seminar attracted many foreign delegates and representatives from UNIDO, EU and faculty members from other universities. The seminar was also attended by Mr. David Holbourne, Chief Technical Adviser, BEST Programme /UNIDO, Ms. Munira Rahman, National Coordinator, BEST Programme & EU/NORAD, faculty members, high officials and students of BUFT. BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and UNIDO-BWTG jointly organized a one-day workshop on Development of National Performance Cluster held on September 17, Wednesday at BUFT, Uttara, Dhaka. This one-day workshop provided the opportunity for dialogue and discussion to explore how a clustering strategy can be used to improve the competitive advantage of the Apparel Sector in Bangladesh.
This workshop helped in gaining knowledge about clustering strategy and how the three technical centers of BUFT, NITTRAD, iART launched by BGMEA, BTMA and BKMEA could provide the coordinated technical, innovating and competitive cost effective demand driven services to the apparel and textile industries. The workshop was presided over by Mr. Muzaffar U Siddique, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT who strongly recommended and emphasized the importance of creating a Cluster Board in Bangladesh to develop a National Performance Cluster. Dr. Lynne Hammond, International Expert from the London College of Fashion was the keynote speaker and explained the definition, principle and benefits of clustering. She focused how Turkey used clustering for their fashion/apparel business growth. The Bangladesh Ready Made Garment Sector has undergone dramatic changes over the last few years but needed to adopt an agile approach to fashion supply chains. The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUFT, Mr. David Holbourne, Chief Technical Advisor, UNIDO, Mr. Shameem Ahmed, Vice Chairman of BKMEA and also members of UNIDO-BEST Program, representatives from government & non-government organizations, entrepreneurs from mid and high level RMG units, Registrar, faculty members and admin officials of BUFT.

BUFT permanent campus construction plan was approved by RAJUK on November 11, 2012. The construction work started on 17th February 2013. Once completed, the campus will provide 378,560 sft of floor space for use in its 10 storey building
A two-day training program titled `Supply Chain Management was held at the BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) on July 15 and 16. The training program was jointly organized by BUFT and Better Work in Textile and Garments (BWTG) of the Better Work and Standard (BEST) program of UNIDO funded by EU with the support of the Government of Bangladesh and NORAD. Renowned global Expert from Niederrhein University of Applied Science, Germany Prof. Rudolf Haug, Dean & Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology conducted the two-day training program. At the end of the training programme Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Vice Chancellor of BUFT distributed certificate among the participants.

A one-day training program was organized by BUFT UNIDO, BWTG-BEST Programme & EU/NORAD on 14th July, 2012 on ``How to write a Research Proposal at BUFT as part of UNIDO implemented Better Work under BEST program. Prof. Dr. Marie Louise Klotz, President, Rhine-Wall University, Germany was the keynote speaker. The BUFT faculties participated in the day long training program. Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Vice Chancellor of BUFT inaugurated the training program. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor, BUFT, Registrar and Faculty members were also present in the training program.
A one-day training program was organized by BUFT UNIDO, BWTG-BEST Program & EU/NORAD on 26th November, 2012 on ``Cutting Technology. The training program at the BUFT was a part of UNIDO implemented Better Work under BEST program. Mr. Razvan Ionele, Textile Consultant, Gherz, Switzerland was the keynote speaker. A three-month short course on Pattern Making and Computer Aided Design (CAD) was organized by BUFT. Mid level officers of different Garment industries training centres in Bangladesh attended the Program. MBA in Apparel Merchandising is a unique program of BUFT designed to enhance the students competency to deal effectively with th e global apparel trade. organized a Blood Donation Program at BUFT Auditorium, Uttara, Dhaka. Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Vice Chancellor of BUFT inaugurated the Blood Donation Program. Among others Prof. Engr. Dr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor, ANM Rafiqul Alam, Registrar, Faculty members Kazi Shamsur Rahman, Faruk Ahmed, Md. Atikur Rahman, Librarian of BUFT, Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman and S. Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Vice Chancellor of BUFT in his inaugural speech said that the blood donation is one of the greatest way to help human suffering. The students of BUFT 101 batch Rabbi, Kafi, Raihan, Soborna and other 101 batch students with Quantum volunteers coordinated the whole day programme. They collected over 113 units of blood donated by the BUFT students, faculty members and other officials and staff.
