Responsibility for Preserving the Environment Ultimately Belongs to Each Individual & not to Government
One cannot change the system unless he changes himself. Every day we talk of a system blaming it to be responsible for where we are, but we have never thought of changing ourselves. May it be corruption, terrorism, cheating or anything that cause disappointment to us; we always start of blaming the system. But what is system? We are the system and until and unless we bother to look ourselves and find flaws in our approach towards things, we can never think of changing things. Though it is the governments responsibility to initiate things, but ultimately public is the beneficiary and it is their responsibility to use it as it is intended to be used. As a matter of fact, we keep our house clean. Just like this if each one of us also cares for surrounding of our house then ultimately this will keep the whole society clean. But if we are going to consider the place in surrounding of our house to be responsibility of municipal committee and throw garbage irresponsibly then the consequences will be that everyone will be following you. Once I happened to be in a society, Bahria Town in Islamabad. I was amazed to see the clean beautiful roads and pollution free environment and upon asking I was told that it is because of the contribution of people with management of Bahria Town. The management has provided trash bins & proper garbage disposal services so that people may use. Despite this management has also provided public recreational facilities so people may benefit. Now it is the duty of people to throw their garbage in bins, use parks or other facilities so that they do not destroy the beauty of these places. So this presents an ideal model of how people and government can co ordinate to make country and its environment a healthier place to live in. There can be other aspects of preserving the environment like government has banned hunting on animal species that are getting extinct or it can be in the form of cutting the trees or polluting sea water which endangers marine life. So now its people duty to forbid doing these kinds of activities of only then we can say that we have played our part. In order to preserve our environment, there is a need to shift the attitude of people from blaming the system to be the first one to take positive measures. Government is only present to create laws, provide facilities and to maintain them. But to abide by the laws being made and use facilities provided by government as a good citizen is the sole responsibility of people and most appropriately an individual itself.
