GFS Advisory Services Determining your Optimal Energy Mix

Interestingly, knowingly or subconsciously we are constantly solving optimization problems in our everyday life. The concept of optimization comes to play every time we are faced with the problem of choice. In an infinite world, choices need not be made, but the real world is limited to finite options and hence the need to optimize. As evident from the various research papers as well as available optimization tools, every facet of a product or a project life cycle need to be subject to the rigors of optimization to ensure efficiency. Furthermore, the optimization exercise is redundant as a single dimensional linear problem and needs to be framed as a multi-space or multi-domain iteration. This simply means that a local optimization exercise just limits the outcome to a sub-optimal solution when the need and scope is to model the ground reality as accurately as possible. In this era of sustainable development when energy security issues are the foremost concern across the globe, the de-facto corporate mandate needs to be optimization of the energy mix for all of their operations. However, the objective though clear, is not always so simple to address. The reasons are manifold, but the biggest constraint is the associated cost and investment to achieve that optimality. Though, there are multiple global initiatives, primarily in the European nations, where various programs and funding initiatives are being developed for sustainable development (JESSICA1, JEREMIE2 , JASPERS3, etc.), but the corporate commitment is still at a nascent stage. In many nations, the challenge still lies in awareness building amongst the small and medium sized sub-optimal operators. However, the brighter side of the exercise would be not only enlightening them about their operational impact with respect to energy usage but the most rational way should be to address the global concept of sustainability. Thus the optimization model to build for these players need to encompass their energy, waste and water related impacts, incorporating the standard benchmarks where available along with a target optimum path. Since, investment in these initiatives are a challenge, the optimization model needs to demonstrate the savings potential and return on investment, thereby incentivizing the energy optimization and sustainability drive amongst the critical mass, namely the small and medium sized industries. GFS Advisory Services can help most of the nations in: 1. Awareness building on energy usage/ optimization and sustainability concepts 2. Assessment of current process with a focus on energy usage, waste disposal and water usage GreenField Software on the other hand can help in taking an informed decision for creating a better sustainable tomorrow by: 1. Monitoring and reporting the current energy usage 2. Providing optimum sustainable solutions for a better tomorrow
