YOU

It could have been the remark likening Soccer House to the Kremlin in last week's "Record" but not only news but good news has come from the 'Board of Management. I can't blame them for wanting it shouted from the rooftops because it does them credit, and this is the sort of news I want you to read. No fewer than 22 schools will be provided with soccer equipment in~ cluding goal posts, balls, etc. This is great; who ever heard of a youngster who didn't want to wear his school colors and represent it. Proper gear is essential and this is what these schools will have.
Well done, members of the board, you get the accol:ade from ,me: and I tell you somethmg, I. don t lIghtly bestow honor~. The kIds of today are the. very lIfe b~ood of the game, a~~ thIS move wIll pay handsome dIvIdends. .
Another "The moveAdidas afoot duction, IS a fine quide to prot~,e

Just for "The Record" I could suggest that some referees could throw away the good book they operate from, and use the simple interpretations which are in this fine book. Soccer is a simple game and a simple approach to the rules, especially for youngsters, is a must. It should have been done years ag<?, however, full.marks to the Fe?eratIon .and to AdIdas for producmg somethmg to fill a much ~eeded wan.t. Some of you fans who mIght be a bIt rusty on the Rules and Laws of the game, keep. your ey~s open. Tak~ my ,';'lord for It, ~he):'wIll be at the Park soon. That IS, ~f the Referees smarten up on theIr approval of the book, which certainly has mine. I wonder if the press comment on the need for a "crash course in EngJish because a migrant youngster didn't know who Polly Farmer is" was a true report on the statement al'eged to have been made by the
Minister for Thompson. Education ' Mr. Lindsay

Rules of Soccer for JUnIor Players. This is an excellent booklet, but unfortunately issue is being delayed pending the ap\,rO;val of the Victorian Referees AssocIatIon, to whose attent!on ~ draw not!ce to the fact that tIme IS on the wmg. There are a couple of points in this b?oklet which a~e not stri<:tly accordmg to t~e officIal. m.anuscrIpt, but for heaven s sake thIs IS so that kids can learn the basic principles. Unless I miss my guess the Referees .are likely to put this booklet through v~y close scrutiny and pick a few ltfiles in it.

I personally doubt it and in any case a Polly Farmer could be a parrot breeder from Wooloomooloo. Soccer is at last getting a fair deal in the schools and I believe it is the Minister's sporting interest which has brought this about. For up-to-the-minute comment on weekend soccer tune in to 3KZ every Friday niglu at 9.30. Sports Cavalcade, presented by Rod McLeod, will, from now on, include a soccer segment presented by Alex Barr.

ALEXANDER SHOULD CRACK JUVENTUS' SHAKY DEFENCE By ALEX BARR

Alexander could get on top early in the game and .apply pressure to the Juventus backllne w.hlch at p'resent appears to be lacking cohesion and confid~nce. It won't. be easy but it looks like more pOints for the
Tigers. It seems . . incredible that a team
'"ji~v Alexander still has to sharpen up
'c,'

its shooting for goal. Last round numerous chances went begging, and the score could easily have been trebled, but hasty wild kicking saw the opportunities completely wasted.
A wo~d of warning to Alexander. Don't think Juventus,are a pushover.

which is normally a t.hre~t to all corners should be. struggling l!l secol;1d bottom place with a massive thlrteen goals against. It looks to me as though someone is "fiddling while Juventus burns" and the supporters don't like it o~e

If you let them take the initiative early you will be in trouble. Millar and Norman are damaging players given an open space, so keep tabs on those two. , ,

little bit, as the exodusfrom Olympic Park last weekendclearly demonstrated.

I like this Slavia player Ian Reid, who notched a fine hat-trick last round. It wasn't only the way he got the goals which caught my eye; it was his tenacity and his willingness to work hard. A spell in the reserves

CLUB CORNER
CROATIA
McMeechan bombshell. The club is open to suitable offers for the Australian and Victorian forward. Approaches have been made to the player but as yet the committee has nothing official to go on. If the right price is offered he will be cleared. I reckon he is worth plenty. Duncan McKay apparently has had enough of sitting on the sidelines, and has come to his sen~es. His approach to the club for re-instatement will be considered by a special general meeting of the Club, which has stuck to its guns. IS too good to be lost to the game, but not good enough to stand over the committee. It could be that a "bread and water" diet has brought about the change. Anyway Duncan, you will get a big welcome from the fans if your bid is successful. Good luck.

Glenroy Soccer Club is putting on a special Film Night on Sunday, May 12 at,1nePtcagtessc'theatre, W~st Coburg. ;l:h~, f~n1astic .film coverage of the World Cup senes called 'Goal' will be screened together with full supporting features. Make this a date and assist Glenroy. Bad news. Eddie Sacco suspended for three weeks after last week's incident. A bit tough I reckon. Good news-differences between Archie Campbell and Jimmy McDaid and the club have been settled; both are back in training, but will find the

way back to the senior side a rocky path..

More bad news. Popular "lub steward, Charles Pisani, suffered a broken arm in a freakc accident at work.. Although incapacitated he could still be on hand to see the players' equipment is up to the usual high standard set by the club.
