1. SCOPE OF SPECIFICATION This specification covers the installation of metal jackets. 2. GENERAL 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.

5 Materials shall be applied in accordance with Manufacturers Specifications. A vapour or moisture barrier material shall be applied to the inside of the metal jacket. Metal jackets shall always be lapped against the weather. Prefabricated metal jacket seams shall have weatherproof seals. S-Clips shall conform to the following details:

3. STRAIGHT PIPE 3.1 Longitudinal Edges 3.2 The crimped edge shall overlap the inner edge by 2. The edges of adjacent sections shall form a straight line. The lap shall be located in the lower half of the pipe with the overlapped edge facing down to assure proper water run-off.

Circumferential Laps Overlapping shall be 2. The overlapped edge shall face down on pitched or vertical pipe lines.

3.3

Metal pipe jackets secured with screws shall have screws at 6 centres along the seam. Metal pipe jackets secured with bands shall have one band at each circumferential joint, and additional bands between, not exceeding 18 spacing. Circumferential joints on vertical piping shall have S-clips to prevent the jacket sections from slipping. Whenever mastic is specified for fitting jackets, the pipe jacket shall always overlap the fittings except for the top joint of vertical pipe lines. In such case, a complete moisture seal shall be made. The overlapping of fibreglass fabric and mastic shall be 2.

4. FITTINGS 4.1 Prefabricated fitting jackets: Whenever prefabricated fitting jackets are specified, the longitudinal joints of jacket halves shall be sealed with silicone sealing compound before installing screws. Prefabricated jackets shall be fastened with screws as per Fig. 4.1 & 4.2 of this standard. 5. FLANGES 5.1 5.2 The metal jackets, covering insulated flanges shall be prefabricated so they may be removed and reinstalled without damage being done to the jacket. (See Fig. 5.1 of this standard). The prefabricated jackets shall have 2 long (minimum) sleeves to allow 2 overlap of pipe insulation jackets. (See Fig. 5.2 of this standard).

6. VALVES 6.1 The metal jackets, covering insulated flanges shall be prefabricated so they may be removed and reinstalled without damage being done to the jacket.

7. VESSEL SHELLS & STACKS 7.1 Bands shall be stretched and fastened by machine and shall be located on the following centres: Pressure vessels Stacks Storage tanks 7.2 Longitudinal laps 7.3 7.4 7.5 For corrugated material, the lap shall be one corrugation For plain material, the lap shall be 3 minimum 4 ft. maximum 3 ft. maximum 2 ft. maximum

Longitudinal lap joints shall be fastened together with blind rivets located on 6 centres (maximum). Circumferential laps shall be 3 minimum. Circumferential lap joints shall be fastened together with stainless steel S-clips located on 12 centres. At supporting rings, metal jacketing shall be fastened to supporting steel with stainless steel metal screws at 12 centres.

8. VESSEL HEADS & ROOFS 8.1 8.2 8.3 Jackets may be pre-formed or made from triangular shaped gores. Laps between gores shall be 2 minimum. Gores shall be fastened together with screws located on 9 centres (maximum).
