Instructional Strategy: The section will be divided into groups of four students that work as a team. Attendance, punctuality and in-lab work performed are important and will be taken into consideration for final grading (20% of the final grade). For each experiment there are two activities that are executed in the following sequence: experiment information, and experimental session. A description of each activity follows: Experimental Session: The work plan details the process and procedures that the group will follow to accomplish its objectives. This plan will be provided by the instructor. During this task, the group is expected to carry out the established experiment. Students must meet at the equipment site on the dates scheduled for the experimental sessions. STUDENTS MUST COMPLY AT ALL TIMES WITH SAFETY REGULATIONS. The ability of the students to work in teams will be considered during evaluation. Students are expected to integrate theoretical background to the experimental TASK. Please, refer to the instructor for detailed information about each part of the report. The cover page of the report must show: the title of the experiment, instructor's name, section number, group letter identification (i.e., Group A), and group member's names. Quizzes: The students will take a short test related to the experiment at each laboratory session. Equipment: If more time is needed to continue the experiment, the student must notify the instructor to make an arrangement of time. Students cannot use the equipment without supervision and due safety gear. 2. Evaluation/Grade Reporting: The course grade will be distributed as follows: a. Attendance punctually: 10 % b. Technical Reports 50 % c. Short Tests: 30%. d. Work in the laboratory: 10% The course grade will be determined based on the following scale: 100 90% A 89 80% B 79 70% C 69 60% D 59 0% F GRADING POLICY This course will account for 25% of the final grade of INME 4107. 3. Attendance and Behavior: Students must arrive to the classroom or laboratory site before the exact time. Under justified circumstances, a five minutes tolerance without affecting the grade is permitted. Latecomers within the first fifteen minutes will receive a 10 points penalty on the ongoing course activity (Experiment or report). Students arriving 15 minutes late or more to the laboratory site will be considered absent. Make-up laboratory work is allowed only if a valid reason exists (to be decided by the instructor). In this case, the student must perform an experiment which could be different from the one scheduled for the semester and write his or her own report.
