Taskforce to monitor

POLICE are monitoring ille-
gal moneylending activities
throughout the country and will
launch a crackdown on loan-
sharks at the right time.
According to a report in Sin
Chew Daily, about 20 police
officers from the commercial
crime department had been
assigned to the Housing and
Local Government Ministry to
gather information and evidence
of loanshark activities. This was
confirmed by Inspector-General
of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.
The report said the police,
who come under the purview
of the Home Ministry, had
worked with the Housing and
Local Government Ministry on a
number of occasions in the past
to compile intelligence on illegal
moneylending activities.
Musa said a special taskforce
comprising commercial crime
officers would also monitor the

He said the government had
been talking about recognising

will walk the talk and announce
the Chinese universities it recog-
nises,” Yap said in a comment on

Man shot in the neck
KUALA LUMPUR: A gunman
fired three shots at two broth-
ers, hitting one of them in the
neck in Kg Cheras Baru early
yesterday.
The bullet grazed Mohamad
Mohd Radzi’s neck while his
brother, Mohd Arif, hid behind
a lamp post in the incident on
Jalan Kuari at about 12.10am.
Mohamad, 40, and Mohd Arif,

armed with a revolver, fired
at them before fleeing on the
victim’s motorcycle.
Mohamad was admitted to
the Ampang Hospital where
his condition was described as
