Critical response In the article entitled "Eliminating Racism in the Classroom" the author, 'Richard Morgan' believes that

it is the moral obligation of teachers to eliminate racism in today's classroom. The author then proceeds to discuss about the methods and strategies that a reconstructionist educator may use to tackle the problem. Through his research the author discovers that a teacher could remove racism by evaluating the suitability of the materials used in the classroom. Besides that, other ways that can be used are through building cooperative groups and using different multi sensory activities such as making posters in order to eliminate racism. The author choose to believe that the methods will not have a positive influence outside the classroom in contrast to what the results in the classroom are. I believe that the author is viewing the issue in a negative perspective as results in the classroom will affect the public in general. I choose to say so as students are the future generation and they are the agent of change. The author is not willing to accept the mainstream perspective and only focuses on the instant results that the methods can gain. The author believes that racism will always exist outside of school. I feel that this statement of his as very disturbing as nowadays we can see intermarriages between cultures and the government is adapting to change and for the first time a black president is elected to lead the country. Therefore the views of the author is no more relevant towards today's generation. I strongly disagree with the author's opinion that students must be taught to accept racists no matter what their differences may be. In his opinion, the author also states that if students do not accept those people the students will also unknowingly participate in the social ill themselves. I feel that this would only encourage the racist to continue influencing other people if they are not told to stop and as future leaders, students are the agents of change and the older generation of racist will one day cease to exist completely. The author believes that using posters and plays will not be able to change people's perceptions overnight and students should accept that they will live in a society full of racists. I choose to agree with the author's statement as change did not happen overnight and our society have come a long way to reach where we are today. It took us a long time and countless generations before we accept each other as who they really are without undermining their looks, culture and religion. As a conclusion, I would like to say that I must disagree with some of the author's ideas as it is no more relevant in today's society. However, there are also some ideas that I must agree upon as our society is hanging upon a thin thread and it only takes one mistake to incite racism in our society once more.
