While students were enjoying the summer recess, many were on campus working hard in preparation for opening day in September. The opportunities for our students continue to expand. Please take a moment to review some of the more significant opportunities being offered to our students this fall. First, the Northern Burlington County Regional School administration and faculty are pleased to announce that Google Apps for Education (GAFE) will be incorporated in two social studies courses: Global Studies (grade 7) and American History (grade 8). In addition, Google Apps for Education (GAFE) will be th available to all 10 graders. Specifically, GAFE will be incorporated in all English II courses: English II Honors, English II, and English II pullout replacement. In these classrooms, students will have frequent access to GAFE and other pertinent websites through the use of a Samsung Chromebook, a dynamic and innovative portable computing device. This introduction will set the foundation for continued expansion of these and similar programs in the next few years. Next, I am pleased to report that course offerings have been expanded in the high school social studies department to include honors courses for students in grades 10 and 11. US History I Honors and US History II Honors curriculums were developed to support this program expansion. The Advanced Placement program added the course AP American Government and Politics. This elective course is available to seniors who wish to interpret U.S. politics and analyze the ideas that constitute U.S. political reality. Northern Burlington now offers 33 honors and advanced placement courses: 15 honor courses and 18 AP courses. Curriculum was also written for our new high school course entitled Music Appreciation. The course has been developed to appeal to students who have an interest in music, but are not performers. Students will understand the role, development and influence of music throughout history and across cultures. Not only will students develop an appreciation of music, but they will also learn to create original songs and recordings with the software program Garage Band. I am confident that the above changes will better support the positive culture all have come to expect here in the Northern Burlington Regional School District. I encourage all parents and friends to visit the campus to see our talented students perform in plays and musicals, as well as choral and band performances. Come watch our student-athletes compete. The experiences are priceless. Stay abreast of all the latest news and events by reading the principals e-mails and by visiting our web site at www.nbulrington.com. Also, follow me on twitter @nbcsuper as I explore this new media. The Northern family continues to inspire me. Education is growth and at Northern, our motto is to inspire this desire for continued growth. We do this, one student at a time. By working together, the Board of Education, its administration, faculty, support staff, and community will continue to be successful, and our students will benefit. Sincerely,
th
