Installing AutoTURN 8.1 Pro 3D
AutoTURN Pro 3D 8.1 installs all Program Files required to run in AutoCAD and MicroStation. AutoTURN Pro 3D 8.1 stores folder locations in the registry.

Upgrading AutoTURN Pro 3D

If AutoTURN Pro 3D is installed on your computer, and you have a valid MAP (Maintenance Assurance Program), proceed to Installing on a Standalone Computer or Installing on a Network. This is the only upgrade case where user created files are migrated automatically. If you do not have MAP, AutoTURN Pro 3D must be uninstalled before installing AutoTURN Pro 3D 8.1. If you have any prior version of AutoTURN, you should uninstall it before installing AutoTURN Pro 3D 8.1. Note: Custom vehicles and types must be exported before the existing version of AutoTURN is uninstalled, so that they can be imported into AutoTURN Pro 3D 8.1 after upgrade (see below for

Transferring User Created Content

Custom vehicles and types can be exported using Export Vehicle in the Vehicles -> Select Current Vehicle dialog box. Files exported include the vehicle, realistic vehicle drawing, custom type, profile drawing, sight lines, and loads for the selected custom vehicle.

Migrating User Created Files from AutoTURN 8.1

Standalone or Workstation computer: Copy the contents of the Database and User folders from the old installation to the new one (by default, these folders are located in the C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN 8 folder).

Server: Copy the contents of the User folder from the old installation to the new one (by default, these folders are located in the C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN 8\Shared Data folder for AutoTURN 8.1 and the C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN Pro 3D\Shared Data for AutoTURN Pro 3D 8.1). Note: If the user created files are being migrated to a computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7, they must be copied to the AutoTURN Pro 3D workstation folder (the default location is in Users\Public).

3. Installing on a Network
IMPORTANT! You must have administrator permissions to install and configure AutoTURN Pro 3D. Installing AutoTURN Pro 3D on a network involves two stages: Setting up the Servers, and then Configuring the Workstations. Folders and Permissions AutoTURN Pro 3D installs files to two main locations during the server installation stage: the Program Files are installed to the Program Server; the License Server files are installed to the License Server. The Program Files do not need to be installed on the same drive or computer as the License Server files, which allows for more network flexibility. During the workstation configuration stage, a location is created on the local workstation for output files and settings called the Workstation folder. The names and locations of all of these folders are stored in the registry. The registry entries are automatically created when AutoTURN is installed, but they can be changed after installation if desired by using the AutoTURN Pro 3D Configuration Utility. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express SP3

During installation, Setup will attempt to detect a TRANSOFTSERVER instance on the Program Server. If a TRANSOFTSERVER instance is found, the AutoTURN database will be attached to this instance. If no TRANSOFTSERVER instance is found, you will be offered to choose from the following three options: Install a new TRANSOFTSERVER instance on the computer and attach the AutoTURN Pro 3D Server database. Specify an existing instance and attach the AutoTURN Pro Server database to the specified instance. AutoTURN Pro 3D supports custom instances for SQL Server 2005/2008. Before a database can be attached to the SQL Server custom instance, the SQL Server login and password should be created, and the "sysadmin" role added. After installation, the "sysadmin" role can be removed. Skip the server database installation and disable data sharing between AutoTURN Pro 3D workstations. If you choose to install a new TRANSOFTSERVER instance, the Prerequisite Pack will attempt to detect an existing SQL Server 2005 Express on the system. If an existing SQL Server is found, you will be prompted to upgrade it to English SQL Server 2005 Express SP3. Choosing this option will upgrade all existing instances of SQL Server to the English version of SQL Server 2005 Express SP3. Should you decide not to upgrade your SQL Server, you can go back and specify an existing instance to be used or skip the server database installation. Once Setup has completed, it is important that port 1433 and the files sqlservr.exe, sqlbrowser.exe are allowed through the firewall so that the workstations will be able to communicate with the installed database.

Network Configuration
During the installation process, AutoTURN Pro 3D is configured to run the Program Files from the workstation to reduce network traffic. In addition, each workstation is configured to access the License Server to verify the license.

Setting Up the Servers

Setting up the servers involves selecting computers in your network to act as the AutoTURN Pro 3D Program Server and Transoft Solutions Product License Server. Regardless of whether these are the same computer or different computers, installation should be performed at the AutoTURN Pro 3D Program Server. Note: AutoTURN 7 and AutoTURN Pro 3D 8 can share the same server database. If, during installation, the AutoTURN 7 database is detected, select the Reuse the existing database option to avoid losing the existing custom vehicles. IMPORTANT! If you need to install the License Server to a remote computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7, the Remote Registry service must be running on the remote computer. To start the Remote Registry service you must have appropriate permissions, and then: 1. 2. 3. 4. Click Start, Run on the Windows task bar. Type "Services.msc" in the Open box, and then click OK. The Services dialog box displays. Select Remote Registry in the Services list, and then click Start Service.

Proceed to Starting AutoTURN Pro 3D in AutoCAD or Starting AutoTURN Pro 3D in MicroStation.

MSI Workstation Installer

The MSI Workstation Installer created during server installation is intended for administrators with very large networks who have network management software that allows them to automatically install MSI files over a network. Using network management software such as Active Directory, administrators can use this file to push workstation installations from a central server to remote workstations. Other administrators should use the standard workstation installer from the Program Server (see Configuring the Workstations above). The default path of the MSI Workstation Installer is C:\Program Files\Transoft Solutions\AutoTURN 8\Workstation. Note: The MSI Workstation Installer is a wrapper around the regular AutoTURN Pro 3D installer. The resulting MSI file will work for installations only, and it cannot perform other MSI functions such as uninstallations, repairs, or rollbacks. Since the Microsoft SQL Server CE installer is an MSI which does not work if wrapped around another MSI, you have to deploy Microsoft SQL Server CE before deploying AutoTURN Pro with MSI. The Microsoft SQL Server CE SSCERuntime-ENU-x64.msi and SSCERuntime-ENUx86.msi installation files are located on the AutoTURN Pro CD in the drive:/Data/EXE/English/ folder where 'drive' is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive. The installation files can also be found in the Workstation folder located by default in the Program Files folder on the Program Server. On a 64-bit computer, you must install both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of the Microsoft SQL Server CE MSI files (the SQL Server CE applications may fail if only the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of the MSI file is installed on a 64-bit computer). During server installation, the SetupWorkstationSilent silent installation shortcut is created. Administrators can use this to set up workstations without having to answer the installation prompts for each workstation. MSI installation based on Microsoft Server 2000 is not supported.

Monitoring the Number of Network Users

AutoTURN Pro 3D monitors network usage by maintaining a log of users. When the maximum number of licensed users is reached, new users will be denied access. Administrators can access this log by generating a report from within the License Server Administration Tool.
