Project Abstract : The tranquil pleasures and quiet charms of Angkor surround the 239 rooms of Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra, lush gardens and free form swimming pool. A large selection of restaurants, bars, spa and golf course are also available. Since the opening of the hotel in 2000, Sofitel did welcome many high ranking politician, show business people, business man and members of the different royalty from around the world in addition to all our his guests, what also make the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra so special and one of the leading hotel in Siem Reap. The hotel and the golf were designed and developed by our Owning Company and Corporate office with the commitment to be energy efficient and environment friendly, all of that without compromising with the luxury comfort of our guests. From electrical power, water, garbage recycling, many procedures and controlled have been already implemented.

1.Impact. 1-1 Energy Saving. The Energy consumption average in 2008 is 261,760 kWh/month and average in 2009 is 248,538 kWh/month. Around 5% lower than previous year ,The basic energy saving in hotel by staff and management team implemented as below details..

1.1.1-Our Practices in hotel Angkor Spa Instead of using staff lift (elevator short distances, staff must go up or go down by using normal stairs. Staff must use the elevator when urgent case and need to carry the heavy loads. Switch off the light and computer after use and go for lunch. Turn off the tap properly in the locker after using. Human Resources Switch off the light and computer after use and go for lunch Turn off the tap properly in the locks after using Staff must take food enough as much as they can, but should not throw away Front office Always switches off after use the computer and light Print only the necessary documents and some paper need to be used as recycle if it is not confidential Turn off the tap water after use and switch off the light in staff locker in the time and also the light in lobby should be kept in schedule. When occupancy is too low, guest is no show or any cancellation, Front office Manager will inform to HKP and room maid must turn off all light and air conditioner. Main lobby door must be closed for keeping cold in the lobby, in order not to charge the battery of club car so much, do not need to use it to carry for small items. During cleaning in the guest room, the light and air condition to be switched off. For turn down service at night time switch off some light, switch on the bed side lamp and the entrance. Pantry and staff toilet light must be switch off after using. Laundry Always finish duty and must switch of the steam, the light, and the water, the washing machine and presser. All machines need to be used in proper guideline. Food & Beverages Switch off the light of library if there is no guest in explorers tale. Monitor and turn off the air condition based on guests. Switch off the computer during break time and after work. The temperature of the chiller room (Food & Beverage) should be kept automatically. Kitchen We must always turn-off water tap after use when not busy time and after duty. Operate the chiller and freezer as needed in the low season. Report to engineering immediately when something is not proper working such as water leaking, gas leakage and got electrical burnt smell. Switch off the gas and electricity after finished duty.

1-2-Environmental Effect. 1.2.1 Accor Earth Day. Accor Earths day is on between 22-26 of April of every year. The activities on 26 April 2009 were : - To give the speech by our General Manager, Mr.Didier Lamoot regarding environmental in hotel. - Cleaning around the hotel by staff. - Plant 1 tree in every year. - Donated the 30 M2 library to Banteay Srei Orphanage,Siem Reap. And provided lunch for them during accor earth day.

1.2.3 Waste Water Managed in Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra. The capacity of hotel water treatment plant Activated Sludge type is 250 M3 to 330 M3 Day. By the 8 sewage sumps/16 Submersible pumps, Waste Water go to the Waste Water Treatment Plant and the treated water goes to 800 m3-Lagoon no.4.From the lagoon no.4 by 50 m3 pump to lagoon no.2 by electrode float control level. By the same time lagoon no.4 provide grey water to hotel garden daily.

4.Originality Creativity/Innovation 4.1-Laundry Managed After the investigated the laundry operation, we found that the operating hour of our laundry section averaged 365 hours/month, too long because of the washing process got not enough washing machine. The improved as below:

Do weekly forecast by Laundry Manager and fixed operation hour by digital timer to all machine in laundry from Engineering.

Increasing the washing Capacity by bought new machine 75 kgs 1 unit and cost involved is $14,500.

After we completed the project we saved the manpower and operation hours decreased from 365 hours/months to 260 hours/month.

Problems, Laundry could not fix operation hour during high season due to the guest request and also the outside guest laundry could not fix the service house for us. 4.2-Pest control in hotel The pest control in hotel handled by hotel gardener from January 2009 and process are as follows; Provide the basic training classes to all Gardener.
