The old barn is located on a hill, next to Windermere Lake. Nearby was The Sunderland WW2 plane factory. The workers were brought in Windermere. A whole community and its stories were created around the factory. The process of making objects together is described in recorded proof. At present Windermere is loosing its stories and identity becoming a highly touristic area. The process of making, the place and the space can upcycle and preserve stories. The project tackles with the upgrading of the old barn and transforms it into an eco-standard building.

The performance space is a glass cube structurally caught in-between three towers: the horizontal tower , the vertical tower and the tower on top. The building creates connections with the city and this particular place of the Tower Foundry and the canal. The performance space- the cube, allows flexibility in terms of light and props ( kept inside the tower on top ) the traditional scheme of the theatre remains, but the actor and the spectator can change place.

mapping the unbuilt space - old fabric

The city is to be composed by large car roads and newly built fabric. The project proposes a grid that cuts the new built space creating roads for bikes, pedestrian paths and interior public gardens . The site on which the project develops has recently passed through demolitions. An old neighborhood is in reality planned to become a boulevard for cars.

RUBIK FLATS

The project is not about referencing to styles, nor regulations as major part of the area was illegally demolished .The Collective house project it is an emergency project proposing to re-evaluate space. It creates a new scenario. In order to preserve space it is necessary to up-cycle.The flats will be inhabited by transitors, expats since the site is located near the station and the city centre. The space scenario reveals multiple space combinations. The floor plans alternate between two plan configurations V1, V2. Each configuration supports flexible partitions and space scenarios .

A new chaotic boulevard link in-between The North Station and a recent haussmanian main boulevard Buzesti-Berzei will accelerate the development of the surrounding neighbourhood. Most of the old urban fabric has been brutally demolished for the new growth of the city. The project for the collective housing is due to embrace the existing situation and tries to re-conciliate spatial relationships.

THE GLASS SQUARE. THE STONE SQUARE

Situated near by a stadium, well connected to the city centre, the Sports Centre is a starting point to recover the area. The project links the place to the city, revitalising the social context and indicates the growth of the city fabric in order to continue its major circulation on radial and circular axis. It proposes a natural extension of the city following its geometrical frame and environment. The stone square is an outside extended area of the interior glass square shaping a very flat field landscape.

THE SOCIAL HUB proposes a vertical square. The space develops as a spiral porch that connects to an interior light court. The groundfloor opens and links to a "maidan", a typical local space typology identified in the old city fabric. The "maidan" and the "gang" were local space typologies used to carve unbuilt space. Irregular enlargement of the built fabric in order to shape public space defines and simulates the old " maidan". The "gangs", are clusters that penetrate the old cramped city fabric and connects the narrow streets with interior courtyards. The projects simulates collective spaces aiming to preserve the local and invite people in the neighbourhood to interact in order to save the area from real estate interests. A negative phenomenon affecting the local.

The Maldaresti House is a traditional house prototype proposed to be upgraded for conteporary living. The local traditional myths of the mirror connected to dreams, luck and fantasy are reproduced in a contemporary utopia about space. The old house is rebuilt in the mirror. From the bedroom a staircase goes underground. The new structure learns from the carpenters workshop. The House in the mirror is an underground shelter, responding to contemporary needs and shapes itself exploring land qualities and the prototype of the traditional roof.
