The Daily Politics Internship Program Im seeking fall semester undergraduate and graduate students to work with me on my New

York Daily News blog, Daily Politics, with a focus on covering the 2013 NYC municipal elections. This is an unpaid internship, and applicants must qualify for academic credit. Daily Politics is one of New Yorks top political blogs. Our many readers are true campaign insiders and political junkies who want -- and get -- breaking, exclusive and deep-dive reporting and analysis that dovetails with and enhances our print edition offerings. My interns generally work out of our City Hall bureau, with lots of time on the campaign trail. The ideal candidate: Is an aggressive reporter and sharp writer who can handle extreme deadline pressure; Loves covering (but not editorializing on) campaigns and government, follows politics and knows the players and major issues in the 2013 NYC electoral cycle; Is already familiar with any basic blog platform, including video/photo/document embedding, as well as social media tools. Training in our particular standard and liveblog platforms is available. Photo, video and Excel skills are major advantages. Availability to work at least two days per week is mandatory. Interns must have their own laptops, smartphones and recorders. Punctuality in getting to assignments is critical, as is the ability to transcribe quickly from tape and to file in writing or by phone from the field. PLEASE APPLY if you want the chance to: Earn both solo and shared bylines covering an exceptionally fast-paced (and fascinating) campaign cycle in the worlds most competitive media market; Learn from experienced, connected reporters about interviewing, source-building, records research, the writing and editing process, and online news production; and Pitch, report, and write your own enterprise political stories. Have a GREAT semester -- interning with someone else -- if you: Seek a buffet-style reporting experience -- this one is politics only; Are in any way uncomfortable with competitive press scrums, chasing uncooperative candidates, conducting street interviews or learning (and writing in) tabloid style; Want/need a 9-to-5 desk job -- some early morning and evening work is required.
Editor Bio: Political Correspondent Celeste Katz joined the Daily News staff in 2000. A graduate of Brown University, she has covered two presidential elections, three NYS gubernatorials and now four NYC mayorals, as well as races for U.S. Senate and Congress. Katz has appeared as a guest on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, CBS and NPR. The Daily News, with bureaus across NYC and in Albany

and D.C., is one of the highest-circulation newspapers in the U.S. both in print and online. To apply, send a cover letter, resume and five links to your best published work (political if possible) ASAP to ckatz@nydailynews.com with your name and Daily Politics Internship in the header. Top applicants will move on to an interview and a short deadline writing test.
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants who work for, volunteer for or contribute to a current NYC political candidate or any affiliated activist or spending group are disqualified.
