LOCAL NEWS and EVENTS 25th August Regrowth Vegetation workshop to be held in Gatton from 9.30a2pm at Stockyard Creek Community Hall. This session is being hosted by Lockyer Valley Regional Council and participants will be given a background to Queenslands Vegetation Management Act (1999) and vegetation framework, as well a detailed session on the recently released Regrowth Vegetation Code policy and procedures. Farmers who have questions about the protected native vegetation on their properties or are unsure of what the Regrowth Code is, or how it applies to them, will find these workshops worthwhile. Landholders who do not have a Property Map of Assessable Vegetation (PMAV) or have not recently checked the DNRM website to check their vegetation status on their property are also encouraged to attend. There will be a discussion on Fire and Biodiversity in the Landscape by Craig Weldon (SEQ Fire & Biodiversity Consortium) The workshops are free and lunch and morning or afternoon tea will be provided along with a ready-reckoner summary of the Regrowth Vegetation Code. Participants are encouraged to download their free Remnant and Regrowth Maps and bring them along to the workshop for discussion. RSVP by August 17 to Kaori van Baalen at LVRC on 1300 005 872

PASTURE MANAGEMENT FIELD DAY WIVENHOE


The focus of the day was on managing and monitoring native and sown pastures to maintain good land condition, with the outcome being sustainability and profitability of a grazing business. It captured interest from graziers across the Lockyer from Flagstone Creek to Coominya as well as graziers from neighbouring catchments including the Upper Brisbane, Mid Brisbane and beyond. Damien OSullivan from DEEDi led discussions on: Principles to balance pasture growth, utilisation and animal performance. Using indicator species to assess and monitor and when to sow pastures Suitable pasture and legumes for different land types and tips for successful establishment

Everyones Environment Grants


To help people get involved, the Queensland Government will be offering Everyones Environment grants to community groups for a wide range of environmental initiatives from 2 July 2012, such as: tree planting and restoring degraded land community clean up cleaning up our waterways run-off reduction and water quality improvement enhancing the natural beauty of local communities; and monitoring the level of pollutants in streams. The $12 million grant program will provide for grants between $2000 and $100,000 over the next three years. The program will work with local communities, and small and large environment organisations to tackle environmental degradation throughout Queensland. Talking Wildlifecelebrating 50 years with Wildlife Queensland, 7-8 September


The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland is the oldest, largest, and very well respected wildlife-focused conservation group in Queensland and is bringing together some of Queensland's leading wildlife researchers and campaigners to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2012. Government Extends Disaster Assistance Schemes.


Most measures under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) had been due to expire on June 30, but have now been extended to October 31, 2012.
