INDIVIDUAL & GROUP DYNAMICS COURSE SYLLABUS I. Course Description Organizational life is built around a complex interaction among individuals, groups, and organization. Organizational behavior is an area of inquiry concerned with the influence work organizations have on individuals/groups and the influence individuals/groups have on work organizations. It is the study and application of the knowledge of human behavior in order to increase job satisfaction and job performance. This course aims to provide a framework for understanding and analyzing human behavior in organizations. The fundamental principles and general theories of work behavior covered in this course will help students to explain and predict employee behavior in an organizational context. The primary goal of this course is to help you to understand how to motivate and lead your co-workers and subordinates as well as a better understanding of your own motivation and performance at work. II. Course Objectives The major objectives of the course will be: 1. To provide an overview of the theories and practices in organizational behavior at individual, group and organizational levels and its influence on organizational events. 2. To understand the impact of technology, competition, globalization, cultural diversification and other management challenges on behavior of people in organization. 3. To promote the development of responsible, professional behavior, both as an individual employee and as a member of a team.

III. Learning Outcomes By the end of the course students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of organizational behavior theories and current empirical research related with the topics covered in this course. 2. Apply organizational behavior concepts, models and theories to illustrate real life dilemma/challenge faced by management through a written case to explain employee behavior in an organizational setting. 3. Acquire some useful skills and behaviors for workplace success and make professional team presentation related to current management issues and future trends in organizational behavior. IV. Pedagogical Approach Interactive learning and teamwork will be emphasized during the course. Students are expected to play an active role in the learning process. The course will be administered using lectures, readings, case discussions, exercises, etc. V. Textbook Robbins, S. P., & Judge, T. A. (2012). Organizational Behavior Global Edition (15 ed.): Pearson Education. (Hereafter referred to as Course text) VI. Course Website Class announcements, readings, assignments, a discussion forum etc. will be available at the course website on Blackboard. Whenever possible, course updates will also be sent to your IMT, Dubai e-mail account. Please check both regularly. VII. Course Evaluation All students are expected to observe the academic rules and regulations of IMT, Dubai. Please refer to your Student Handbook for specific details. Also, you may feel free to ask the course instructor or Program Coordinator if you have any questions regarding the rules and regulations. Course evaluation would be based on a number of components such as Assignments, Quizzes, Case Studies, Projects, Class participation, etc.

All assignments are to be submitted on or before the due date. If an assignment is submitted late, the assignment grade will be lowered by one grade for each day that the assignment is late. If a serious issue (i.e. illness, family death, etc.) arises that may prevent you from attending class or submitting an assignment on time, contact the instructor/program office by e-mail or telephone as soon as possible to discuss a make-up assignment or a change in an assignments due date. Exams must be written on the scheduled date unless you have a legitimate/valid excuse. Similarly, Students are responsible for contacting the instructor IN ADVANCE if they are unable to write a scheduled quiz/exam for any valid reason. Valid reasons include medical or compassionate reasons, and must be substantiated by proper documentation. A student who misses a scheduled quiz/exam for any other reason, or who is unable to justify a claim, will be assigned grade F for that quiz/exam.

VIII. Course Delivery Plan The following is a tentative session-wise course delivery plan scheduled for the course. There may be departures from this list as some topics may take more or less time than scheduled. Changes to the proposed schedule will be announced in class and/or on Blackboard. It is the students responsibility to keep up-to-date with the course schedule and any adjustments or changes.

Abridged versions of power point slides and soft copies of the readings will be posted on blackboard, typically the day before class. Students are expected to complete required readings before class and come prepared to actively participate in class discussions. IX.
