THERMAL POWER PLANTS

Since 1993, the track record has earned one of the world top-ten boiler suppliers for Doosan as cited in the McCoy Power Reports. Over the past decade, three of the plants have won international recognition. In 1996, Power Engineering International selected Taean Thermal Power plant as the Project of the Year. In that same year, Electric Power International recognized Boryeong Thermal Power Plant with its 1996 Power Plant Award. Most recently, Power Engineering named Dangjin Thermal Power Plant the Project of the Year for 2001. Recently, we have focused on optimizing the efficiency of coal combustion to cope with increasing competition and stringent emissions regulations. Combining low-NOx concentric firing system with staged combustion, our latest boiler designs achieve NOx emissions of less than 150 ppm, while significantly reducing manufacturing, operating, and maintenance costs. We are also developing next-generation 1000MWe ultrasupercritical(USC) boilers that will operate at steam temperatures exceeding 600C. The Doosan USC boiler system will achieve an efficiency of over 45%(HHV), hence dramatic reduction in CO2 emission. Moreover, our development road map calls for the sequestration of CO2 by the year 2020.

DESALINATION PLANTS
The International Desalination Association(IDA) honored us in 2002 with a Presidential Award for our pioneering application of a hybrid desalination concept to the 100 MIGD Fujairah project in the UAE. Combining both multi-stage flash(MSF) distillation and reverse osmosis(RO) filtration systems, the worlds largest hybrid facility is now delivering greater operational flexibility in both power and water production at significantly reduced operating costs. In addition to our industry leadership in large-scale thermal distillation projects based on the MSF distillation process, we continue to develop the RO technology, the worlds second-mostcommon desalination process. We are also making rapid progresses in the fields of multi-effect and vapor compression distillation, the processes that will expand our ability to take on smaller-scale desalination projects as we continue to establish ourselves as a total water solution provider in markets around the globe.

Doosan currently enjoys the commanding lead in global desalination market. Since commissioning our first turnkey project in 1989, we have earned the reputation as a leading EPC contractor in the field by delivering some of the worlds largest and most advanced desalination facilities in record cycle time. Doosansupplied desalination plants now produce about 400 million imperial gallons of potable water a day, meeting the needs of communities, agriculture, and industry across the Middle East. In 2001, we delivered our first single-module 12.5 MIGD evaporators for the Taweelah A2 project in the UAE. This engineering breakthrough has significantly improved evaporator quality by allowing virtually all fabrication and testing to be completed in the shop before shipment. The single-module design also dramatically simplifies on-site installation, record-breaking cycle producing water within 12 monthsthe industrys time.

Infrastructure is another Doosan business category in which we have established ourselves as a leading contractor. Building on an extensive project portfolio encompassing expressways, railways, subways, bridges, tunnels, and high-voltage transmission lines, we are constantly expanding into new fields and markets. At home, our projects have included two of the ten FIFA stadiums that hosted the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup. Abroad, we have participated in the building of Ho-Ping Power Plant (660 MWe x 2) and Section C280 of the high-speed rail project in Taiwan, the Tuas oil storage facility in Singapore, the Walawe irrigation project in Sri Lanka, and the Siemreap distribution line project in Cambodia. We are also currently building two 1,000 MWe light-water nuclear reactors for the KEDO project in North Korea as well as a number of other projects. Through projects in these and other construction fields, we are dedicated to helping our clients build a brighter and more prosperous future in their part of the world.
