1. 2. Introduction Abstract: Role of Genetic Engineering in Gene Therapy 3. Conclusion
Introduction
Gene therapy and genetic engineering both involve altering the genetic material of organisms which makes them closely related technologies. The distinction between the two is based on purpose. Gene therapy seeks to alter genes to correct genetic defects and thus prevent or cure genetic diseases. Genetic engineering aims to modify the genes to enhance the capabilities of the organism. Based on the definitions of both technologies we can say that Gene Therapy requires genetic engineering.
Conclusion
Thus we come to a conclusion that gene therapy involves processes of genetic engineering such as use of vectors and recombinant DNA technology which are a part of genetic engineering, hence genetic engineering plays an important role in Gene Therapy.
