Dear BhakthAs of

SrI Raamachandra!

Today , we will enjoy the moving krithi of Saint ThyagarAjA on the Naama Kusuma anjali to SrI Raamachandran set in SrI Raagam and dEsAdhi Taalam . It has been pointed out by our AchAryaas like Swamy AaLavanthAr that the folded hands (anjali and anjali bhaddha hastham of a Bhakthan ) melts the heart of the Lord and He forgets about all the aparAdhams done by the Jeevan earlier. When Naama Kusuma Anjali is added , then the unfettered DayA of the Lord breaks all bounds and immerses us instantly in the nectar of the enjoyment of His Dhivya MangaLa Vigraham and DhivyAthma Svaroopam. That is the power of Naama KusumAnjali celebrated by ThyAgarAja SwamigaL. Pallavi ******** Naama-kusumamulachE poojinchE nara-janmamE janmamu manasaa (meaning): Oh my mind ! That Saadhakan's life alone is life , who performs aarAdhanam to the Lord through the offer of nAma kusumAs ( flowers of His dhivya NaamAs) That nara janmam alone reciting the Lord's thousand names is worthy of salutation.Rest of the nara janmams are just wasted lives not worthy of paying attention. That nara janmam alone is worthy of recognition and the rest are vyartha janmams ( futile and worthless births). Anupallavi *********** Sreeman-mAnasa kanaka peetamuna chelaga jesikoni vara Siva Raama (Naama Kusuma) (meaning): Oh my mind! That Saadhakan's life alone

is life , who worships and adores RaamA enshrined on the golden throne of his own really auspicious mind. As a human birth , that Saadhakan's life devoted to the aarAdhanam of the Lord seated on the Golden throne of his blessed mind is the most exemplary one to follow by the rest. Siva here stands for auspiciousness of Raama Naamam. CharaNam ********* naadhasvaramanu varanavarathnapu vEdhikapi sakala leelA-vinOdhuni nOdhuni , ParamAthmuni , SrIrAmuni paadhamulanu , ThyagarAja-hrudhbhUshaNanuni (Naama KusumamulachE poojimchE) (Meaning): Oh my Mind! That blessed Saadhakan's life alone is the most precious , who worships the sacred feet of that Supreme Being with the flowers of His naamAs. Such a blessed one , who makes those nAmA-floral offerings (samarpaNams) at the feet of RaamA , the Supreme One , is the one with the most blessed life. Such a fortunate Saadhakan places the Lord , who is the reveller of His leelas such as the creation and sustenance of the universe on the gem-bedecked throne of his heart made up of saptha svarAs born out of Naadha. That reveller in the sport of the universe is the jewel adorning the heart of ThyagarAja. The imagery that ThyAgarAja SwamigaL brings to bear in this moving keerthanam is matchless. He visualizes the splenderous saptha svarAs to the dazzling nava rathnams forming the radiant throne found in His heart , where the Lord of AyOdhya , the Supreme One , is seated recieving the Naama KusumAnjali. ThyAgarAja compares the nAmAs of the Lord to flowers (KusumAs). Even the most fresh flowers will fade and lose their fragrance over time , but not the nAma kusumAs. The nAmAs of the Lord uttered with vaathsalyam will fall at His sacred feet as He sits on the throne inside the BhakthA's heart and the fragrance of the Naama KusumAs will be enhanced through contact with the Lord's auspicious feet. Here , ThyagarAja SwamigaL has an intimate conversation with his mind (Maanasa sambhAshanam) and says that a human life devoted to aarAdhanam of the Lord through archanaa consisting of the flowers of the Lord's names is the only one worthy of celebration and emulation. In the anupallavi, SwaamigaL uses a phrase , " SrIman-mAnAsa " to refer to the loftiness of the Mind that is fortunate to have Raama seated on the golden throne recieving Naama KusumAnjali from His blessed bhakthan . SrImad Sabdham is usually added to sacred and auspicious entities (e.g)., SrImad RaamAyaNam . This manas is no ordinary manas but "SrImanmanas" says ThyagarAja SwamigaL . The loftines of Maanasa aarAdhanam and MaanasIka Bhakthi is covered by Swaamigal here. SrImad Gaambheeryam ( the auspicous majesty ) of SrI Raagam is the apt one for such a noble krithi of SwamigaL. We might recall that the great Pancharathna Krithi of "YentharO MahAnubhAvulu " was set in the same SrI Raagam by ThyAgarAja SwamigaL .

Detailed significance of SrI Raagam in the context of the above Pancha Rathna krithi (YentharO MahAnubhAvulu) has been covered in the URL: http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/feb2002/0027.html The greatness of SrI Raagam and the Naama KusumAnjalis housed in the Naattai Pancharathnam ( JagadhAnadhakArakA) are covered in another earlier posting : http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/feb98/0078.html These postings cover the Naama KusumAnjali and NaamArchanai ; their significance from a Vedic, Upanishadic and PurANic point of view is covered in the above posting .. As adiyEn was writng these few lines , a MahAthmA called and contributed 2,000$ for the ThiruvahIndhrapuram RathnAngi Kaimkaryam especially at a time , when adiyEn was disheartened about making progress on this Kaimkaryam dear to the heart of many bhakthAs . adiyEn can not describe in words the state of my gratitude to the leelAs of the Lord . adiyEn is convinced that the Lord and AchAryA's anugraham will take us to October 5 , 2003 (PurattAsi SravaNam , the birth day of Thirumalai SrInivAsan and Swamy Desikan ) , when the New AabharaNam of RathnAngi would be presented to the Lord by His children from all over the world at ThiruvahIndhrapuram . We are at the 3 Lak Rupees stage of the Kaimkaryam with Lord's anugraham and Your participation , adiyEn feels hopeful to raise the remaining 7 laks needed to reach Kaimakrya Poorthi(Completion of this Kaimkaryam) . Please , Please join in this once-in-a life time kaimkaryam and recieve SrIman NaarAyaNan's paripoorNa anugraham .This kamkaryam is dear to the hearts of every SrI Vaishnavite AchArya. adiyEn is only a tool in the Lord's hands.
