Master International Communication

Programme description
Five universities across Europe, all specialising in corporate communication and public relations in international professional contexts, have joined forces to create a unique joint programme offering you the full benefit of their collective expertise and international networks. The consortium offers you an internationally developed programme, which was financially supported by the European Union. The Master in International Communication (MIC) is a postgraduate fulltime programme for bachelors in communication or related fields. Itprepares you for an international career as a communication practitioner in senior managerial or consultancy positions, responsible for the external and internal communication of an organisation.

Programme outline
The MIC programme consists of three semesters (90 credits). During the first semester you will study at your home university, and the second semester at one of the consortium partner universities. During the third semester, you will write your dissertation under the supervision of two of the partner universities. This programme starts each September.

Educational concept
The programme has a competency-based, hands-on approach. As part of a team, you will design communication strategies for clients needing results. Academic achievement is not enough to be successful in this programme. You will have to prove yourself as a creative problem solver able to measure up to professional standards as well as academic excellence. In order to ensure that you receive the full benefit of an intercultural environment, the student body is internationally diverse.

Graduate profile
As a graduate of the Master in International Communication you will be a competent intercultural communication professional able to work in a global context. You will be able to anticipate change and develop, implement and manage sustainable and effective communication campaigns. As a graduate, you will have the skills and knowledge needed to work in the communication industry at management level.

Programme

Semester 1 Professionalising communication


The first semester introduces you to the full breadth of the profession. What are the roles and responsibilities of the communication professional in an organisation from a strategic perspective? Which main functional areas are there? How does culture influence communication? What is the relationship between the organisation and its international and intercultural environment? The semester consists of two modules: International business environment Corporate communication in an intercultural context

Semester 2 The communication professional in context


During the second semester you will complete a number of specialisations from one of the partner schools. Specialisations are, by definition, in tune with what is happening in the professional field and can change accordingly. The consortium offers you a broad spectrum of professional specialisations, roles and tasks. During the specialisations, you will analyse and solve a communication problem for an outside client. Semester 3 The dissertation


The graduation assignment consists of a masters dissertation. You must demonstrate mastery of those competencies required to obtain the title Master in International Communication. You will choose a professional role and in that role solve and analyse a problem for an outside client (working in-house or as a consultant). The result of that product is based on applied research, using an appropriate methodology. Every problem requires a solution from an international or intercultural perspective. The dissertation is completed under the supervision of two universities.

The consortium is proud to carry the name of Professor Dr. Geert Hofstede, pioneer and international leading scientist in the field of international communication. The five partners of the consortium are situated in university cities across Europe giving you the opportunity to study in vibrant academic environments. Two degrees
The consortium offers a joint international programme. You will study at two consortium partners. Each partner you study at will award you a master degree. Hanze UAS offers a Master in International Communication. Graduates will also receive a consortium certificate stating that the programme is an international joint master programme, developed with the support of the European Union. Alldegrees are fully accredited.
