Psychology is important as it is concerned with the study of behavior and mental processes and at the same time, it is also

applied to many different areas of human life. Everything we do is very much related to psychology. Psychology, primarily studies who and what we are, why we are like that, why we act and think like that and how we can improve ourselves. My understanding of the human mind and behavior requires multiple approaches and involves a variety of academic disciplines. It comes mainly from psychology and associated disciplines with approaches ranging from the biological and genetic to the social and cultural. Each has something to offer our understanding, and none in itself is complete. Rather, we get the best understanding of mind and behavior by looking at different approaches together. The exploration begins with the evolution of mind. Although we are often aware of how thinking and behavior develop from childhood through adulthood and into old age, we seldom think of evolutionary forces influence on mind and behavior.

How Psychology Improves a Relationship It makes use of psychology everyday of our life. Are we aware of that? We use it when we are talking with friends, with our co workers and with everyone around us, we use it when arguing, reasoning and disciplining our child. Psychology Help in Building Relationships it helps strengthening a relationship and making everyday lives better through escalating a persons self-knowledge and understanding towards another individual. Psychology Improves Daily Communication by understanding psychology, people learn on how to communicate effectively towards one another. It teaches people to understand what others are saying and of course in comprehending the persons actions or gestures towards a certain condition.

Psychology Builds Self-Confidence the more you know, and discover about yourself, your being, your personality and your weaknesses the more you seek for self-improvement and when that happens your self-confidence are increasing. Psychology Enriches Careers by knowing better and understanding your co-workers you are able to get along with them, you know where to stand as you know where they are coming from and what they are going through. Psychology teaches you how to correctly and rightfully deal with other people around you. As this condition continues occurring in a work place, it will positively enrich everyones career.

Psychology as a Science Psychologist--as well as scientists in other disciplines meet the challenge of posing appropriate questions and properly answering them by relying on the scientific method. The scientific method is the approach used by psychologists to systematically acquire knowledge and understanding about behavior and other phenomena of interest.

Sensation & Perception When we smell a fragrant flower, are we experiencing a sensation or a perception? In everyday language, the terms "sensation" and "perception' are often used interchangeably. Sensations can be defined as the passive process of bringing information from the outside world into the body and to the brain. The process is passive in the sense that we do not have to be consciously engaging in a "sensing" process. Perception can be defined as the active process of selecting, organizing, and interpreting the information brought to the brain by the senses.

How they work together: 1) Sensation occurs: a) Sensory organs absorb energy from a physical stimulus in the environment. b) Sensory receptors convert this energy into neural impulses and send them to the brain. 2) Perception follows: a) Brain organizes the information and translates it into something meaningful.

Approach to Learning Psychology The approach that focuses upon the thought processes underlying learning. The approach that gives importance to cognition for understanding and explaining learning. Cognition is defined as "the mental processes" or the faculty of knowing. Cognitive learning Approach has roots in the cognitive perspective. Cognition means "knowledge" or "the process of knowing". Cognitive approach emphasizes: Thoughts Feelings Thinking Values Expectations etc Memory Human memory, like memory in a computer, allows us to store information for later use. In order to do this, however, both the computer and we need to master three processes involved in

memory. The major difference between humans and computers in terms of memory has to do with how the information is stored. For the most part, computers have only two types; permanent storage and permanent deletion. Humans, on the other hand are more complex in that we have three distinct memory storage capabilities (not including permanent deletion). The first is Sensory memory, referring to the information we receive through the senses. This memory is very brief lasting only as much as a few seconds. Second is Short Term Memory (STM) takes over when the information in our sensory memory is transferred to our consciousness or our awareness. It holds information for 15-25 seconds. Finally, there is long term memory (LTM), which is most similar to the permanent storage of a computer. Unlike the other two types, LTM is relatively permanent and practically unlimited in terms of its storage capacity.

Forgetting We cant talk about remembering without mentioning its counterpart. It seems that as much as we do remember, we forget even more. Forgetting isnt really all that bad, and is in actuality, a pretty natural phenomenon. Imagine if we remembered every minute detail of every minute or every hour, of every day during your entire life, no matter how good, bad, or insignificant. There are many reasons we forget things and often these reasons overlap. Like in the example above, some information never makes it to LTM. Other times, the information gets there, but is lost before it can attach itself to our LTM. Other reasons include decay, which means that information that is not used for an extended period of time decays or fades away over time. It is possible that we are physiologically preprogrammed to eventually erase data that no longer appears pertinent to us.

Intelligence Reading a road map upside-down and generating synonyms for the word "brilliant" are two very different skills. But each is a measurable indicator of general intelligence, a construct that includes problem solving abilities, spatial manipulation and language acquisition. Scientists generally agree that intelligence can be captured by psychometric tests. But the study of intelligence is dogged by questions of just how much IQ contributes to an individual's success and well-being, how genes and environment interact to generate smarts and why the average IQ score rose throughout the world during the twentieth century. Intelligence is the cognitive ability of an individual to learn from experience, to reason well, to remember important information, and to cope with the demands of daily living.

Motivation Some "Why" questions: Why do you go to class each day? Why do students study for hours to pass examinations? Why do professors teach students, and why do they test students? Each of these questions has an answer..there is some motive for engaging in those behaviors. We may define a motive (or motivation) as a need, want, interest, or desire that propels someone in a certain direction.

So it is very important that a person knows what psychology is all about and how essential it is in everyday lives. I hope you will be able to make use psychology in every aspects of your life as well as in making decisions.
