As a writing teacher, writing coach, and script consultant for nearly 20 years and a writer myself
Ive learned that there are three stages in the life
of a writer:
1. Getting a project written
2. Getting a deal
3. Getting it produced or published
Writers both new and experienced dont have much
control over whether what they write reaches its final
audience, but they can control the first stage.
A writer cant get anything written if hes not writing.
Not being able to write is at its core a mental problem. Non-productivity is its own form of addiction
and obsessive-compulsive behavior. The easiest
thing in the world for a writer to do is avoid writing.
But when a writer is so bogged down in her inability to push forward with a script, complete a first
draft (let alone revisions and a polish), or even get
