Here are some other interesting numbe rs from that source: In March of 2011, the share of working-age (18 to 65) immigrants holding a job was the same as natives 68 percent. Immigrant men have higher rates of work than native-born men, while immigrant women have lower rates. Of top sending countries, the largest percentage increase in the last decade was for those from Honduras (85 percent), India (74 percent), Guatemala (73 percent), Peru (54 percent), El Salvador (49 percent), Ecuador (48 percent), and China (43 percent). In 2010, 36 percent of immigrant-headed households used at least one major welfare program (primarily food assistance and Medicaid) compared to 23 percent of native households.

New immigrants and their U.S.-born children account for two-thirds of the increa se in the uninsured since 2000. There are 10.4 million students from immigrant households in public schools, accounting for one in five public school students. Of these students, 78 percent speak a language other than English at home. Of adult immigrants (25 to 65), 28 percent have not completed high school, compa red to 7 percent of natives. We estimate that 28 percent of all immigrants are in the country illegally. Roughly half of Mexican and Central American and one-third of South American immigrants are here illegally. New immigration (legal and illegal) plus births to immigrants added 22.5 million residents to the country over the last decade, equal to 80 percent of total U.S. population growth. Nothing "In order to be economically independent, you have got to be able to take care o f yourself without any assistance from anyone else." You can't simply take care of yourself if it means needing the approval, permiss ion or acceptance from somebody else. Under the current system, nobody is economically dependent because everybody dep ends on somebody else "buying" them. If you really want people to be able to take care of themselves without any assi stance then you need to reform the private property system so as to redistribute the means of production to a broader population so they can then use those mean s of production to directly take care of themselves without needing anybody's as sistance nor approval. The current propertarian arrangement and the compulsion that everything must go through the market is what is impeaching a lot of people from being able to take care of themselves. To deny them assistance under such an arrangement is pure tyranny. Nothing

"The percentage of Americans that are economically independent has dropped to a stunningly low level. " Under capitalism, only those who own capital, property and the means of producti on are economically independent. For your information, being employed, having a job is NOT self-reliance and is n ot economic independence. Under the capitalist system, if you lack capital you have no choice but to sell your labor to an employer who is free to not buy it. You cannot avoid the job ma rket. There is no economic independence in such an arrangement and it has nothin g to do with socialism, regulations nor social democracy. The government's biggest intervention in the economy is to uphold private proper ty rights, especially in the means of production and productive properties. Ther efore it's capitalism and the compulsion to market everything that is more to bl ame for the high percentage of individuals who are not economically independent. Being a slave to the market is still slavery. If you are truly honest about wanting people to be economically inedpendent, the n you would push for common ownership of the means of production and for democra cy at work. You would fight against a propertarian society where freedom and rights are rese rved only for those who own property. mcBot Noble sentiments, Nothing. Throughout humanities history, wealth (money) and the persuit of it, has been th e one constant, responsible for all that humanity has suffered under the power o f wealth framework. As it has been with every empire of past and present, when t he wealth and control of money becomes concentrated to the small percentage, tho se of the greater percentage become subjected to an existence of servitude. You can't simply take care of yourself if it means needing the approval, permiss ion or acceptance from somebody else. To deny them assistance under such an arrangement is pure tyranny. see more 0 0 You must sign in to down-vote this post. <Reply Share TwitterFacebookLinkNothing a day ago 0 upvotes + Flag as inappropriate"The percentage of Americans that are economically independ ent has dropped to a stunningly low level. You would fight against a propertarian society where freedom and rights are rese rved only for those who own property. see more 0 0 You must sign in to down-vote this post. <Reply Share TwitterFacebookLinkmcBot >Nothing a day ago 1 upvotes + Flag as inappropriateNoble sentiments, Nothing. Unfortunately, I think we're in a situation where the great dreams of socialist reformers simply aren't attainab le - what we're headed for is collapse. Unfortunately, there is just enough unco nventional oil and natural gas to give us at least a few years of totalitarianis m before the final collapse comes. (We're better off the sooner it collapses - I

'd rather take my chances as part of a survivalist team a la "The Walking Dead" than up against a totalitarian slave state armed with drones and sonic weaponry. ) So while I love the dream of a functioning healthy society and respect princip led Leftists like Noam Chomsky, we're past that point. Preparation for collapse is the only course now. see more 1 0 You must sign in to down-vote this post. <Reply Share TwitterFacebookLink linda barnett >Nothing a day ago 1 upvotes + Flag as inappropriateWorked real good in soviet russia and communist china. Those who are considered a drain on the empire or constitute a threat to that po wer of wealth and control have always been targeted for elimination,an all to of ten common practice of true EVIL. It's been said that the cream rises to the top, but unless the cream is continua lly churned it's always been the first part to sour and thus an example of what is being witnessed in todays America. Not just a souring but a full on cottage c heese curdling. Unfortunately the controllers of the true evil (money) have throughout history c oncocted a system where humanity has become dependent on money to sustain it's v ery existence. Today we live in a time where people have lost or given up their common bond of humanity and found themselves more and more dependant on their in dividual technology, becomming nothing short of electronic zombies. Seperated by an addiction to their electronic boxes, becomming more and more ensnared into t he web of electronic control created by the money masters. Lacking the skills of survival and inter species human bonding, worshipping false idols while gatheri ng in elaborate temples of staged entertainment to recieve the words, teachings and interpretations of false profits. Always remember, give someone a fish and they'll eat for a day, teach them to fi sh and they'll be able to eat for a life time. Its time to reeducate people of t heir common bond of humanity and that inherent ability for shared survival, or a ll may be lost to the power of EVIL. Evil can never maintain a continued existence as long as there is a strong cohes ive bond of all humanity. We are today on the preci[ice of loosing that common b ond forever. see more 2 0 You must sign in to down-vote this post. <Reply Share TwitterFacebookLink snoopdog a day ago 0 upvotes + Flag as inappropriateThe financial sector is totally self-centered, as is a, to a foolish irrational extent.
