The 24 Hour Project
Main Gallery, June 8 August 7 The 24 Hour Project stands alone as the largest street photography event of its kind in the world. The 24 Hour Project, a completely unique experiment in photography, is a true marathon for participants. The project pushes the limits of the photographer emotionally, physically, and creatively, and was envisioned by street photographers Renzo Grande and Sam Smotherman in 2011. The 24 Hour Project is a day with 24 dead lines and no room to make up a lost opportunity. One image from every hour is chosen to represent those 60 minutes in a permanent gallery online and also select shots will be hung now at SPACE Pomona and other galleries in the future. This project is unique in the way the photographs are shared during each photographers 24 hours. It utilizes the immediacy of social media platforms but the project is more than mobile photography and social media. While there are strong roots in both of these areas the project is, in the end, about the pursuit of capturing the world around us no matter the tools for capturing and sharing. The gallery show will be representing only part of the 20112012

years with work of over a hundred street photographers. The gallery contains a selection culled from two years of shots and showcases only a small percentage of the three thousand plus shots that were uploaded worldwide. Without the photographers this project would not have the worldwide scope that it encompasses. The creators would like to thank not only the photographers who have participated in project but also the community that has
supported the project. All of the photographers of The 24 Hour Project hope you enjoy the physical manifestation of The 24 Hour Project and this slice of the biggest street photography event in the world. The complete portfolios of both 2012 and 2013 can be viewed at www.the24hourproject.net

backSPACE, July 13 September 7 My passion for recycling and doing my small part to save the planet is the core idea that drives my artwork. The massive amount of waste produced by society has become a steadily increasing problem, and our landlls are overowing as they try to nd creative methods to repurpose waste. This started to occur to me when I started working as a sign artist in 2010 at Trader Joes. I quickly realized how much paint is wasted and thrown away everyday. I am not just talking about the paint that gets left behind on the paint trays, but also smaller things like drips in a water bucket, pallet scrapings, paint mixing cups, or even the splatter on my paint materials and see it as a pile of trash; I see it as my art medium. I love the idea that something that most people would throw away will now become something visually appealing, as well as show the history of me as an art student and working artist. When I look at my art, I am proud that I was able to create something beautiful out of waste. My purpose is to create problems for myself and solve them in a way that is creative and useful. I am always looking for that drop, smear or splatter of paint, and asking myself What can I create with that?
