The HDR Light Studio interface and features found in the plug-in are identical to the standalone edition. Please consult the HDR Light Studio User Guide PDF included in your installation to learn about the features of HDR Light Studio. Here we describe the worow of the plug-in with KeyShot. Once the HDR Light Studio Live plug-in is open, the HDRI environment is replaced in KeyShot with the HDR Canvas from HDR Light Studio. Now you can design lighting in real-time directly onto your KeyShot scene. Cool! To see a higher resolution version of your lighting design on your model press Render and select from the drop down list under EXR and HDR le formats to select the Live setting. Now when you render, the hi-res render is sent straight into KeyShot and not saved as a le. When you are happy with your nal lighting design press Render and select the HDR le format and you can then save your nal HDRI design as a le. This new HDR le will automatically be used and added to your KeyShot Environments Library. If you now change your lighting design in HDR Light Studio Live, the canvas data will replace the saved HDR le, so you will be in a Live lighting session again. The lighting design in HDR Light Studio is also embedded into your KeyShot le. So next time you open your saved KeyShot scene, and launch HDR Light Studio Live, the design is already in place for you so you do not need to save the lighting design separately.

The Live connection works by linking HDR Light Studios Live canvas data to the texture le applied to the V-Ray Dome Light. When lighting is changed in HDR Light Studio, it updates this texture with a new tmp le. This changing tmp le creates the interactive lighting experience.
In order for the Live connection to work, the Render Setup needs to be set to ActiveShade and V-Ray RT set as the ActiveShade renderer. Now the HDRLS panel shows the Current renderer valid.
Page 15
Use HDR Light Studio to light your shot with interactive image based lighting. When you are happy with the lighting, Render your nal lighting as an EXR or HDR le on disc. The Live connection will automatically set this le to be used on the Dome Light. If you start adjusting the lighting in HDR Light Studio, the Dome Light with revert to using tmp les again from the Live session and you will need to re-render the le on disc in order for the texture slot to point to that. The HDR Light Studio lighting design is embedded in the 3ds Max scene. If you Stop Live and close the HDR Light Studio panel, you can open HDR Light Studio later inanother session and your lighting design will be loaded from the embedded data in the 3ds Max scene. LightPaint Workow When using HDR Light Studio Live with V-Ray RT, users can also launch LiveLight by pressing the Kettle button in the top bar of HDR Light Studio Live. Then your scene can be pushed from 3ds Max into LiveLight to use the LightPaint feature, for point and click lighting on your model. Please note: The Collada le format used to push the scene into HDR Light Studio does not support V-Ray Physical cameras. There is a simple workaround, with the V-Ray Phsical camera used in a view, right click on the Camera name top left of the view and change it to Perspective, then press CTRL C and this duplicates the view exactly but as a normal 3ds Max camera. This new 3ds Max camera will be exported to HDR Light Studio.

HDR Light Studio 4 - Live connection for Maya Live Plug-in Usage
This dialog is used to launch and select the connection for HDR Light Studio Live. With HDR Light Studio Live, small temporary HDR les are sent to Maya with each change to the lighting design. This provides an interactive lighting work ow with instant updates in your IPR renderer - seeing the lighting design in context on your nal scene. The plug-in works with Mental Ray, SprayTrace, Maxwell, V-Ray, Renderman and Arnold.
Workow
Step 1 - Open the HDR Light Studio Live dialog in Maya Step 2 - A HdrlsProjectData node is created. The HDR Light Studio lighting design is now a part of the Maya scene and embedded within this node. Step 3 - Select your Host Renderer Step 4 - The plug-in presents the user with suitable IBL nodes in the scene for that renderer, select the Environment Hook from the drop down menu and HDR Light Studio Live will connect to that with Live updates. Step 5 - Press Start Live to launch HDR Light Studio Live with the live connection to the chosen Environment Hook Step 6 - The Direct Export plug-in can be used to push the same scene into LiveLight, so users can use Lightpaint to place lighting directly onto the model and see the results update instantly in the IPR window. This is a fast and precise way to light scenes. Step 7 - When a production render is produced in HDR Light Studio Live, the le created is automatically applied to the Environment Hook.

HDR Light Studio 4 - Live connection for Houdini Live connection for Houdini
The HDR Light Studio Live Controller (HDRLSLC) digital asset (HDA) can be used to interactivly in realtime with Houdini to create image based maps for use with Environment Lights (EnvLights). Many Env-Lights can be created and controlled with independently lighting setups from HDR Light Studio to allow for later deep compositing. All projects associated with the lighting setup for each of the scenes EnvLights are stored within the Houdini scene le so will be stored as the project le is saved.
Workow
The HDRLSLC HDA controls which EnvLights are being edited by HDR Light Studio at any one time. To use, make sure the HDRLSLC otl le is in your Digital Asset location. Create an instance of the HDRLSLC HDA in the network view (under the digital asset section of the tools menu). Only one HDRLSLC is required, and it does not need to be linked to any other nodes in the network view. The properties of the HDRLSLC shows a single dropdown eld with all the scenes EnvLights - if none are present, <none> will be listed. Also show are 2 buttons for starting and stopping the Live link to HDR Light Studio. Select the environment light you wish to edit, then click on Start Live. Pressing Stop Live at any time will close the HDR Light Studio editor. Changing the selected Live EnvLight at any time will switch to the other EnvLights lighting design (the current design will be copied over if no previous design has been associated with the new EnvLight). The HDR Light Studio project associated with the EnvLight switched from will be saved in the HDRLSLC, and recalled when the light is reselected Once HDR Light Studio is running and connected to an EnvLight, realtime updates will be automatically pushed through to the EnvLight. Running the Render View set to Mantra's realtime preview will show the changing lighting in realtime on your scene. Once happy with the design, render out a Production Render to your desired asset location to replace the low resolution realtime HDR image maps. Please note: If you don't create a Production Render for any EnvLight, when next loading the scene the texture will be the default red "missing texture" of Houdini as the lower resolution Live images are not persisted on the disk.
