4.4.1 Pipes shall have bevelled ends, as per API Spec. 5L.

4.4.2 Maximum out-of-roundness allowable at pipe ends is 0.5% of nominal diameter.

4.4.3 External reinforcement of longitudinal welding shall be ground off to a distance of 1 (one) meter from each end of each pipe.

4.5 Dimensions

4.5.1 Pipe shall be supplied in diameters and wall thickness specified in TABLE 1. Outside diameter and internal diameter shall be such that pipe permits running external and internal drifts.

4.5.1.2 Internal drift shall be circular, without grooving to accommodate weld fillet, and shall be at least 300 mm long. 4.5.2 Pipes shall be supplied in lengths 12 1 m long, and mean length of each batch supplied shall be 12 0,3 m. 4.6 Marking Pipes shall be marked in paint, inside each end, starting at a point 200 mm away from bevel, in the following sequence: a) manufacturers trade mark; b) diameter x wall thickness x length; c) specification of pipe; d) grade of steel; e) number of Material Supply Authorization (AFM); f) number of Material Purchase Order (PCM). 4.7 Surface Protection of Bevel Bevelled ends shall be protected by varnishing.

5 INSPECTION 5.1 Plate Plate shell be inspected by ultrasonic examination to detect double lamination as follows: a) API Spec. 5L, grade B: according to ASTM A 435; b) API Spec. 5L, grade X-56: according to requirements in Annex to this Standard. 5.2 Pipes Pipes shall be tested in line with API Spec. 5L. For seamed pipe alterations indicated in sub-item 5.2.1 to 5.2.5 shall be adopted. 5.2.1 Tensile Strength Test 5.2.1.1 Plate Test specimens (one longitudinal, one transverse) shall be extracted from configured plate, representing each mill heat. 5.2.1.2 Welding Two test specimens (one representing a longitudinal welding and one a circumferential welding) shall be extracted from each batch of l00 pipes or fraction thereof, as in FIGURE 1.

N-2262
5.2.2 Bending Test

REV. A

English

JUL / 94

Two tests (one on face, the other on root) for each type of welding (one circumferential, the other longitudinal) shall be run on each batch of 100 pipes or fraction thereof.

5.2.3 Retests for Tensile Strength and Bending If any test specimen is rejected, retests criteria stipulated in API Spec. 5L shall then be applied.

5.2.4 Hydrostatic Test All pipe shall be tested at the pressures indicated in TABLE 1.

5.2.5 Non-Destructive Examinations of Welded Joints 5.2.5.1 Non-destructive examinations shall be run on each pipe in accordance with TABLE 2, covering quantities and types stipulated therein, which are applicable to automatic welding.

5.2.5.2 When ultrasonic examination of a longitudinal welding detects a defect (TABLE 2), two other regions of the same welding shall be examined, each one to the same percentage. If the two additional examinations do not detect any defects, welding may be accepted after repair and examination of the original region. If at least one of the additional examinations detects a defect the entire welding must be examined. 5.2.5.3 Longitudinal welding at both ends of pipe shall be radiographed over a distance of 200 mm, and one additional 200 mm long radiograph of a weld fillet intersection shall also be performed. 5.2.5.4 If any radiograph of pipe ends detects a defect, another radiograph the same size shall be made in the adjacent region. If the latter examination also detects a defect, the entire welding shall then be radiographed.

5.2.5.5 When a radiograph of a weld fillet intersection detects a defect, another examination covering the same distance shall be run in the adjacent region and another one on a different intersection of weld fillets not yet inspected. If at least one of the additional radiographs detects a defect in the welding entire fillet shall be radiographed, including the part already submitted to a single radiograph.

6 ACCEPTANCE AND REJECTION 6.1 The criterion of acceptance of examinations, except that for the hand-performed ultrasonic examination, shall be that of API Spec. 5L. 6.2 The criterion of acceptance of the hand-performed ultrasonic examination shall be that of API RP 2X.

Longitudinal and crosswise edges of plate shall be swept over a strip at least 50 mm wide.

A-5 CRITERION OF ACCEPTANCE A-5.l For Plate Body: All points with readings exceeding 50% of screen height shall be delineated by the 6 dB dip technique, or in line with following technique: a) shift head away from center of discontinuity until heights of reflection from bottom and discontinuity readings come out equal; b) mark plate at point matching center of head; c} repeat operation in different directions so as to plot limits of flawed area. Plates shall be deemed acceptable provided each one of the areas thus delineated is less than 1000 mm2 in size and the sum of such areas is less than 4500 mm2.
