TITLE: Editorial Design and Typography The comprehension of language and copy determined by informed design decisions.

PROJECT: A Certain Tendency in Representation Cineclub at Thomas Dane Gallery

THE TASK: Design a piece of print to promote an exhibition/installation by artist Tobias Putrih, curated by Francesco Manacorda at Thomas Dane Gallery. Your design needs to work as an invite, poster, or booklet.

BACKGROUND: The project will convert the gallery into a fully functioning cinema for one week only. The screening room will be a total installation by Slovenian artist Tobias Putrih. Taking the form of a cinema festival, the show will consist of films by young contemporary international and UK-based practitioners sharing a passion for cinema. Putrih has been commissioned to make a life size projection room consisting of a small, 25-seat cinema, inspired by early 20th century cinema theatre design in London and built in collaboration with the architect Luka Melon TOBIAS PUTRIH: Artist Tobias Putrih uses everyday materials such as cardboard, Styrofoam, and plywood to produce fragile structures that span from small modular objects to larger installation environments. THOMAS DANE GALLERY: Thomas Dane Gallery is a contemporary Art Gallery in London, they represent 19 artists and have been established since March 2004 and are based near Bond Street (St Jamess)

NOTES TO CONSIDER: The typographic elements need to be functional and clear, but also bear in mind that this is contemporary art writing so there is ample room for creativity and contemporary design solutions.
