They are the cast and crew of the movie adaptation of the book: Ms. Jeremae the scriptwriter, and the stars Mr. Shane West and Ms. Mandy Moore! *Flash movie poster on screen with the faces of Tiana and Chris replacing the faces of the stars on the poster* Enter Christopher, Kristiana, and Jeremae. They shake hands with the host and take their seats. DC: Good morning. Its nice to have you on our show. Jeremae: Were honoured that were here. DC: Jeremae, you were the scriptwriter of the movie adaptation of the book. Can you give us a quick run through of the plot? JT: The story starts when Landon's father pressures him to become the student body president, which he won through the efforts of his best friend who is a popular jock. Landon then invites Jamie to go with him. Jamie was the daughter of the local pastor and she has been in Landons mind recently as she matures into a woman. They have a good time and Landon admits that she is probably the best date he could have brought to the dance. As a favour to Jamie, Landon becomes the lead of the school play of The Christmas Angel" opposite Jamie, whose father wrote the play. Landon spends a lot of time with Jamie and begins to fall for her. At first, Jamie refuses but they become a couple after Landon's persistence. Tragically, he finds out that Jamie has terminal leukemia and is dying. He then spends all his time and effort in being with her and making her last days happy. They get married, and even after she died, he still wore her ring and continued to love her, calling her his miracle. *show screen caps of the movie while Jeremae is narrating* DC: Wow, what a tragic love story. You mentioned the play The Christmas Angel. Many believe that this was the turning point for the characters. What can you say about this?

JT: It is a reflection of Jamies fathers struggles in life: losing himself after the death of his wife and also the renewal of life after the realization of how important his daughter. The play was one of the things that connected Landon and Jamie. It was when Landon first saw Jamie, not physically, but metaphorically, as someone he could possibly be interested in pursuing a relationship with. DC: What do you think made their love so memorable? JT: One of the favourite phrases of Jamie to quote was that maybe it was in the Lord's plan for this to happen, and that applies as well to their relationship. It was as though they were a match made in heaven. Even though we all know that they didn't really have that, their love was one of purity. It was a growing love, one of hope, one of sacrifice, but most of all, their love was one which exceeded "until death do us part" because even after she died, he never stopped loving her and never will. DC: How touching. Now, Shane, you played Landon Carter in the movie. Can you tell us his unique facets? Chris: Landon was stubborn at first. He was easily swayed by his friends. I mean, I couldnt blame him that much. His father was a congressman who lives miles away. Hes stuck with half a family and hes always pressured to be this popular kid in school; and so he doubts himself all the time. But when Jamie comes along, he became more honest and down to earth to the point of becoming like Jamie in some ways. DC: Landon was a dynamic character. Why do you think people hated Jamie so much? I mean, your character showed a bit of resentment towards Jamie before Landon knew her true personality. Chris: Jamie was, I think, a representation of someone others wanted to be in terms of character. But she wasn't there yet, that's why they bullied her. She was sweet, kind, had all the good qualities of a lady, and that made her look like such a perfect person that her peers became insecure because of it. DC: Mandy, do you agree with that? Kristiana: Yes, its true. She wasnt perfect but she was close to it. DC: Jamie was the daughter of a pastor and consequently she was very religious. How closely to do you identify your religious side and religious devotion? KR: Jamie was religious, and I think if it made her kind of contemplate where she was in that part of her life -- which has been a good thing. Even the books that shes been reading in her spare time have more of a religious connotation. DC: True. It's not like Jamie converted Landon in the film.

KR: If anything, it just teaches him about life and about having faith. He doesn't really know who he is or where he's going in life, nor does he care. And I think her personality just kind of instilled a little bit of her faith in helping him. DC: Now, do you really think the bad boys can be reformed by the love of a good girl? KR: I think its possible, I mean, thats what happened in the novel. And girls are attracted to rebels. *giggles* Just kidding. Its a pro if theres a visible hint of goodness in the guy; but it wouldnt be an easy feat if hes unwilling to change for the better. . You shouldn't go into a relationship thinking you can change someone. DC: Wise words, my dear. With that, were going to take a quick break. Stay tuned to A Show to Remember. Exit all. *Flash title of show with Well be back added below. Show commercial/s less than 1 minute long only. End of commercials. Flash title of show again.* Enter host. DC: A while ago, weve learned what there is to know within the bounds of the novel. Now, were transcending it and looking beyond and behind the text. To help us with this, lets give a warm round of applause to Ms. Azalea, Goodreads.coms most intriguing critic, and Nicholas Sparks himself! *Flash pictures of Aza and Michael with respective captions of their names and role (Aza: book critic, Nicholas Sparks: author)* Enter Azalea and Michael. Host stands up to shake hands with them. DC: What a privilege it is to have you here on our show. Nicholas, your book is fantastic to say the least. Weve been thinking, how did you come up with this novel and all its glory? Michael: I was inspired by my sister, Danielle. She had cancer and died a year after this book was published. DC: Was she in any way like Jamie? MC: In some ways, yes. She always wore an ugly sweater, had a Bible with her, and her husband proposed to her even after knowing her condition. As Ive said in her eulogy, I guess I wrote this book not only so the readers would get to know Danielle, but also what a wonderful thing her husband once did for her. *wipes away tears* *Aza comforts Michael a bit* DC: What was writing the novel like?

MC: There were a few challenges, though the actual work proceeded more smoothly than it had in previous novels. In some ways, the story seemed almost inspired, and I not only enjoyed the writing process, but sometimes I was even surprised by the turns the story took. DC: Interesting. How did you come up with the title of this novel? MC: The Walk to be remembered was the walk Jamie makes down the aisle to marry Landon even though she was already very ill and weak at that time. She was driven to walk without the needed medical aid but with the strength and desire to show her love for him. On the other hand, it can be Landons walk towards maturity. Likewise, it can be the metaphorical walk of peoples lives and their journey to make the right decisions and acts. DC: You proved to us that love stories can be as remarkable as any other romantic novels without scenes of physical intimacy. What made you do this? MC: This was a story of the beauty, power and innocence of first love. The characters were young and on a personal level. I wanted these two kids to be deeply in love, yet without the physical intimacy that normally accompanies such deep love. In other words, I didnt want them to engage in pre-marital sex. Im Catholic and so is my wife, but more than that, many readers would have been offended if I included those scenes in the novel. DC: Very well said. Aza, as a professional book critic, how would you categorize this novel? Azalea: A Walk to Remember is first and foremost a love story, the kind of novel that can trace its roots back to the Greek Tragedies. It's also Landon's journey of growth and redemption, which stems from his first experience with love, and concludes with bittersweet loss. DC: How does this novel shows the mark of the characters coming of age? AE: Landon is forced by circumstances to grow up very quickly. At the beginning of the novel, he is a senior in high school with no real ambitions, no record of achievement, and a reputation for indulging with his buddies in immature pranks. He thinks it is fun to mock Jamie Sullivan for her unconventional appearance and her religious faith. Jamies father, Hegbert Sullivan, thinks he is irresponsible, and his judgment is accurate. But hiding underneath Landons irresponsible exterior is a young man who has a capacity to feel deeply and to rise to exceptionally difficult challenges. DC: How did Landon mature in a short span of time? AE: He first had to shake himself loose from peer pressure, the pressure exerted on him by his peer group to be just like them. This was difficult because Jamie Sullivan had always been a girl who attracted the ridicule of Landons friends, so how is he to be any different? But gradually, he found the strength of character to express his devotion to Jamie no matter what others think.

He is learning to follow his own heart and moral conscience, even if this means acting contrary to what his circle of friends approves of. DC: How did this affect his love for Jamie? AE: As his love for Jamie deepens, Landon learns how to behave selflessly, to be generous to others, and to survive a test of character in the severest of circumstances the fatal illness of the girl he has fallen in love with. In the way he handles himself during these difficult months he shows he has taken a huge step toward becoming a responsible adult, knowing how to love another and being aware of his obligations to himself, his family, and his community. DC: How does the discovery of faith strengthen in the book? AE: In the early part of the novel, religious faith is presented only in the form of Jamie Sullivan as seen through the immature eyes of Landon Carter. He mocks her for her Christian faith, pointing out that whatever happens in life, good or bad, Jamie always attributes it to the Lords plan. Jamie has faith in God no matter what happens, and she shows it by carrying her Bible with her at all times. In breaks at school, rather than chatting with friends, Jamie prefers to read the Bible. DC: How about Landon and his religion? AE: Landon, on the other hand, has no interest in religion. He attends church only because everyone is expected to do so. It means nothing to him personally. But as he gradually gets to know Jamie his attitude slowly begins to change. He first mentions faith in chapter 10, after Jamie has confessed that she does not always understand what the Lords plan might be. He replies that one must have faith, although he does not really know what he is talking about, and he knows that he does not, and he soon steers the conversation away from God and toward romance. But after Jamie tells him she is dying, he faces his own personal crisis and turns with all sincerity to religion. He prays for a miracle and starts reading the Bible. Later, he and Jamie read the Bible together. It is when Landon reads a particular Bible passage that he finds the answer to the question that has been troubling him: what more can he do for Jamie? He feels that he has finally received an answer from God, and this shows his faith has been rewarded. For her part, Jamie never for a moment loses or even questions her faith. DC: All in all, how would you rate this novel? AE: INSERT SUPER SHORT IMPROV ANSWER HERE FROM AZA DC: This book truly is deserving of those lovely praises. After our break, were going to bring back Mandy and Shane to answer a few of our viewers questions. Dont go anywhere because you do not want to miss this. Exit all.
