YouthoftheBeastisthebrainchildofAdrianSymcoxandBlakeCarver,offspringoftheSoCalmusicscene. Carver&Symcox,nativesofOrangeCounty&SanFernandoValleyrespectively,cuttheirteethearlyinpunk bands,masteringtheDIYethos,whichundoubtedlymadeSeventySevenpossible.TheseedsforYOTBwere plantedin2008whenthetwometatabackyardbbqanddiscoveredtheyhadasharedaffinityforallthings musicallyvintage,includingsoul,country,reggae&punk.Inevitablythetwocollaboratedmergingsolid songwriting,visuallyappealingartistry,refinedtechnicalskillsandanunabashedreverencetotheclassicsound thatpermeatesthroughoutthisalbum.

 Bothmusiciansearlyjourneyswerevitalinhelpingtomalleatetheirindividualtalentsbeforetheyeventually converged.Blakeciteshisfather,aguitarplayeraswell,asakeyinfluence.Introducinghimto50s&60s garage&surfstylings,Blakewentontomakeguitarhissignatureinstrument.Althoughversedinmanygenresof musichismainfocusiswhathereferstoasrootsmusicfromthefringesofAmericansociety,whichhelpsto defineYouthoftheBeastssound.Throughouttheearlypartofthe2000sBlakekeptinvolvedwithmusical projectseventuallymovingontostudyattheLARecordingSchoolwherehehonedhistechnicalprowess.Ashis careerevolvedintofilmscoring,sodidhisnecessitytobecomeamultiinstrumentalist,immersinghimselfina multitudeofsoundandtextures.EachofthesemilestoneshascontributedtoBlakessuccessandhelpedto definehistalents. Adriansinfluencesbeganatanearlyagewhenhisfather,anativeofEngland,relocatedhimtoLondonforafew years.DuringthistimehisfatherexposedhimtoEnglish,Irish,andScottishballads,whichhavehadalasting effecttothisday,especiallythoseofEwanMcColl.UponhisreturnstatesideAdrianputtogetherhisfirstmusical effort,forminghisfirstbandat16.WithanavidinterestinallaspectsofarthewentontostudyatOtisCollege ofArt&Design,graduatingin2004.AfterschoolAdrianbeganhiscareerasavisualartist&graphicdesigner, alwayskeepinghisfeetwetmusicallyaswell.Around2009Adrianfoundhimselfunplugging,working acousticallyandwritingnewmaterial,whichhefoundtobearefreshingchange. Withahandfulofsongs,AdriandecidedtohituphisfriendBlakeandseeifhewantedtocollaborateonan album.TheduosettledintoBlakesstudiowhererowsofguitars,cratesofpercussion,andobscureandexotic instrumentswereattheirdisposal.CombiningAdriansacutesongwriting,withBlakesexperienceworkinginthe filmworld,thepairembarkedtomakeanalmostvisualexperiencewiththerecord.Theirultimategoalbeinga productthatallowsthelistenertocreateapictureintheirmindastheylisten.Bothagreedthattheendresult wasamorefulfillingexperiencethanthetraditionalbandstheyhadpreviouslybeeninvolvedwith.
