CONFIGURATION - COM PORT 1

(See figure 1) In the DICS 6100 system, functionality and configuration must be set up and adjusted according to the physical configuration, connections and the customers requirements. Due to the flexibility in the system, this must be set individually in each system and possibly be adjusted on site. To achieve this it requires the DICS CONFIGURATION SOFTWARE, a PC equipped with a serial port (COM1) and a 0-modem cable. IMPORTANT NOTE: IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR PERSONNEL REPROGRAMMING THE DICS TO ATTEND A CONFIGURATION SOFTWARE TRAINING COURSE ARRANGED BY PHONTECH. INSTALLATION GUIDE
PLANNING
The installation should be planned in details before commencing. The cables should be listed in a cable plan, with number of pairs etc. The location of each unit in the communication system should be planned to obtain maximum performance and user availability. The locations of the intercom stations and telephones with regards to the operators must be taken especially into consideration. Use the document 98609-XXX-IN for help the planning of the installation. Phontech strongly recommend the use of junction box(es) for the external cable distribution.

CABLE TERMINATION
First, ensure that the cable to be used is according to the Phontech specifications. See the CABLE REQUIREMENT chapter in this document.

GLANDS
The cables enter the WP units by means of cable glands. Where cable glands are not supplied from factory, the installer must adapt the glands to the actual cable outer diameter. This is to obtain the specified inlet protection.

SCREENING
The cable screen must be terminated as specified in installation drawing 98609-023/024/025-EC. (For DICS 6101, 6102, 6103 respectively).

FERRULING
The conductors should be ferruled prior to termination onto the screw terminals.

MARKING
Each cable is to be marked with cable numbers. Each conductor is to be marked with the specific termination numbers. Please note that Phontech uses plug-able screw terminals in almost all units. This is to make the installation and service work as easy and durable as possible.

FASTENING
Where applicable, the cables and the conductors shall be clamped to the structure with cable ties.

Handbook page 37/97

Doc.No.: 98609-000-DE-ENG PRESERVATION Prior to, during, and after completion of the installation the equipment surfaces are to be protected against acid holding fluids, pollution, moist, impacts etc. This is in order to avoid damaged equipment for which Phontech will claim void warranty.

SCREEN CONNECTION
In order to obtain maximum performance after installation, it is necessary to terminate the cables and ground the screens in a good manner. The cables are to de-isolated by removing approximately 500 mm of the outer insulation. Then the screen braid is cut off approximately 30 mm longer than the outer isolation. The conductors are to be de-isolated and ferruled before they are inserted into the terminals. The outer screen is clamped to the cable fixing rails inside the cabinet. Cable ties of a conductive type (metal) are recommended for best result. See figure 15 for more details. FIGURE 15

Handbook page 38/97

Doc.No.: 98609-000-DE-ENG The cables outer screen is to be terminated as shown. A conductive type of cable tie is recommended to obtain best possible screen connections.

CABLE REQUIREMENTS
All cables used with the DICS system must be of approved ship cable type. ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT: The cables must be: Common outer screen Individually twisted pairs Recommended conductor size is 0.75 mm All cabling in the DICS must be a separate network. DO NOT COMBINE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS IN THE SAME CABLE. THIS IS TO PREVENT DISTURBANCE AND NOISE CAUSED BY INTERFERENCE. Between the central and intercom / telephones: 1 pair. If extra signal device / loudspeaker: 1 extra pair for 24 VDC (total 2 pairs) Power cables: 1 pair + Ground DICS 6101, 96 ext: consult the drawing 98609-023-EC for detailed system connection. DICS 6102, 192 ext: consult the drawing 98609-024-EC for detailed system connection. DICS 6103, 288 ext: consult the drawing 98609-025-EC for detailed system connection.

5. CONFIGURATION DEPENDANT FUNCTIONALITY:

FLEXIBLE NUMBERING PLAN:
The system is set to use either a 3, 4 or 5 digits numbering plan (CONFIG). The numbering plan can be within the ranges 100-499, 1000-4999 or 10000-49999 (CONFIG).

CALL GROUP:
A call group is a predefined selection of extensions (CONFIG) that will ring simultaneously when called. The call group can be integrated into the normal numbering plan (CONFIG). The first extension within the group to activate (unhook) will reply to the call. Already busy extensions will not be affected or affect the functionality of the other members of the call group. When the call is replied to, and the ringing stops, all other group members will operate as normal.

PAGING GROUP POT :

A paging group is a predefined selection of extensions and external PA-interfaces (CONFIG). Each paging group is given a unique access code (CONFIG) Preoccupied members of the group will not be paged, and the paging party will not be notified of any missing members. It is not possible to define POT members into a paging group, as these are not equipped with the paging facility. In order to be certain all members (except POT members) are paged regardless of any situation the pager must perform an EMERGENCY ALL CALL as described below.

EMERGENCY ALL CALL:

The emergency all call configuration and access is determined in the system configuration (CONFIG) as the priority group selection together with Service class specification. Making an Emergency All Call will terminate all other activity in the DICS, ensuring all extensions and all external PA-interfaces to be paged (CONFIG). The emergency all call will automatically time out after 120 sec.

INTRUSION:
This function must be enabled as a part of Service Classes (CONFIG). It will override busy subscribers and subscribers with PRIVACY enabled.

{PRIVACY} (indirectly configuration dependant):

This facility is selected locally on each intercom unit, but is only available on DICS 6110 . When enabled it will prevent the intercom unit from ringing and the calling party will receive a busy tone. All stations with the INTRUSION facility enabled are able to intrude this mode and re-enable ringing and if required also make a private announcement.

SET TIME AND DATE:

The setting of time and date can be done in three different ways. Either by using the configuration programme, automatically through the NMEA 0183 interface or manually through a IU/POT. The manual way is described in chapter 7and 8. Using the configuration programme is described in the related information. The NMEA 0183 interface is described in the 98609-000-DE document.

Handbook page 49/97

Doc.No.: 98609-000-OP-ENG

ENTERTAINMENT POT:
The system can interface up to 10 audio entertainment sources like radios, CD players or similar. Each channel requires one audio interface on a trunk line board which is configured to be an entertainment input (CONFIG). Each channel is individually selected on each IU.

SPEED DIAL POT:

There are 2 levels of speed dialling available. The one-button speed dial facility (M1, M2 and M3) is controlled in the Service classes of the configuration (CONFIG). Each service class must be programmed with the content valid for its members. Each service class can contain different numbers. The one-button speed dial is stored in the system and will automatically be transferred to any new IU connected to the same line. The two-button speed dial is locally programmable per. IU, and uses the buttons 0-9 as memory locations. This programming is stored in each IU and will have to be reprogrammed to any replacement IU. POT speed dial button is a local facility (not system controlled), dependant of the specific telephone instrument.

CONFERENCE:
The system will handle up to 5 simultaneous conferences. Each conference can contain up to 6 members. The conference function is dynamic and is set up one member at the time.

6. SPECIAL FUNCTIONS OVERVIEW:

Special functions are available from both POTs and IUs. The following list is an overview of the special functions. Entry Code *0 Name Who am I / Identification Description The system outputs the extension number at the sound signals Count one and Count zero 1= 1 time Count one 9= 9 times Count one 0= 1 time Count zero Each extension digit is separated by a short pause Forwards all incoming calls to the requested extension number Performs a Wake-up Call at the requested time. An IU will ring first at the preset ringer volume for 30 sec, then successively increase the ringer volume each 30 sec. until maximum level. The wake-up call stops when the IU is activated (off hook) or automatically after 3 minutes. A POT will ring normally until it is activated (off hook) or automatically after 3 minutes.
