Word Work Monday

BEFORE STARTING

Students write down their pattern rules in a t-chart format on a new page in their Word Work scribbler (neatly!) 5) Cut apart word sort (at their desk) so pieces dont get mixed together; places them in their bags. Today our question is, What is Word Work, and how do we do it? Word work is where we practice reading, sorting and noticing patterns in words. During Word Work we meet in word work groups.

When you hear me say word group youll respond with the 3-peat, word group, word group, word group. Lets practice. Notice the words/letters and how some of them are darker? Those darker ones are important they give a clue. Teach your neighbor what weve learned so far about Word Work, why we do it and what we do during Word Work time Our next part of Working with Words is to learn some new sight words. Sight words are very important because you see them popping up everywhere in your reading. Show the students the Biffy Slide. Practice the sight words for the day / sing the songs Ask them to write them into their scribblers on the page behind their word sort headings and into their personal dictionaries The last thing we do before we move into our Word Work Centers is to play a really fun game. I will put a timer on the smart board to time the game.
