DeepestPointInTheOcean Thedeepestpartoftheoceanwasfirstpinpointedin1951byHMSurveyShipChallengerintheMarianasTrenchinthePacificOcean.OnJanuary23,1960,the USNavyTriestevesseldescendedtothebottomofthePacificOcean,andonMarch24,1995,theJapaneseprobeKaikorecordedadepthof10,911m(35,797 ft),themostaccuratemeasurementyettaken.Ourhighestmountain,MountEverestinNepal,atalittleover29,000feetwouldbecompletelyswallowedbythe oceanatthatpoint.
