Dionafer Bangga III-37 BSE Physics

I. Objectives A. At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: 1. define static electricity; 2. state the two law s of electric charges; 3. discuss how objects become positively and negatively charged through charging by friction; and B. answer 3 out of 5 items correctly II. Subject Matter A. Unit: Electricity and Magnetism Chapter: Electricity Topic: Static Electricity Concepts: 1. Static electricity is a stationary electric charge that is built up on a material. The charge remains until it is allowed to escape to an object with a weaker or opposite electrical charge 2. The law of electric charges states that like charges repel each other while unlike charges attract. 3. When the number of protons in an atom equals the number of electrons, the atom itself has no overall charge, it is neutral. Charging by friction is when certain materials become electrically charged after they come into contact with another different material through friction. An object will become positively charged if it is the one that gives off electrons, while the object that accepts will become negatively charged.

III. Learning Task A. Routine Activities 1. Greetings 2. Opening prayer 3. Checking of Physical Arrangement 4. Checking of Attendance B. Review and Motivation The class will play the family apir with a twist. The class will be divided into two; the first 7 members of each group will play popping balloons. They will pop the balloons while the other team member is sitting; they are given a maximum of 5 minutes to do this. In each balloon, a number will be found corresponding to each question; they will answer it by arranging the scrambled letters on the board. The following are the questions that will be answered. 1. It is a positively charged particle. 2. It is a negatively charged particle ----- ORNOTP (Proton) ----- CELENORT (Electron)

3. It is a neutral particle or has no charge ----- RTUENON (Neutron) 4. It is the basic unit of elements ----- TOMA (Atom)

5. He discovered the principle of conduction of electricity ------- EHNTEPS YRAG (Stephen Gray) 6. What is the term coined by William Gilbert? ------ TRIYTCICELE (electricity) 7. Michael Faradays main contributions are electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and what? ----- LYORTCSSIELE (Electrolysis)

The last person to answer in the board will carry a whistle because after he/she arranged the letters he/she will blow the whistle for the remaining members of the group to come in front and get the colored letters and arranged. When they arranged the letters into STATIC ELECTRICITY they will post it and read it aloud. The first group who finished first will be declared the winner. C. Lesson Proper 1. Pre-activity a. Unlocking of terms Positively charged Negatively charged

Each term will be unlocked by the students through the pictures that the teacher will show. b. Procedure of the Activity The class will be divided into four groups. Each group will perform the following activities: Activity 1 1. Tie a blown up balloon to each end of the thread. 2. Rub it against your hair (making sure that the 2 balloons are far away from each other) for it to become negatively charged. 3. Take the thread by the center and let the balloons hang down at equal lengths. Observe what happens.

Activity 2 1. Blow up the balloon place it on near your hair. 2. Rub it on your hair (your hair needs to be clean and dry). After sometime place it near your hair 3. Observe what will happen.

Guide Question

The teacher gives these questions before the activity to guide students on what to focus during the activity.

1. What happened when the balloon was place near the hair before rubbing it? How about the two balloons tied in a string? 2. What happened when the balloon was placed near the hair after rubbing it? Why is this so?

3. What happened when the red and blue balloons were placed near each other after rubbing it? Why is this so? 4. Based from the results, state the two laws of electric charges. 5. Based from the activity, how does an object become negatively charged? Positively charged? 6. Were the charges continuously moving? 7. What is static electricity? c. Precautionary measures 1. Be careful in blowing the balloons 2. Avoid horse Playing 3. If any accidents happen, report it immediately.

2. Activity proper a. Performance of the activity Each group will perform the 2 activities using the materials given to them. After they have finished their assigned task they will answer the answer sheets given to them in a manila paper. Then will switch with the other group to perform the other experiment. b. Analysis of guide questions The teacher will ask the students about what they feel during the activity. The teacher will ask each group to have a representative and report to the class the product they have. The teacher will check whether the students got the correct answer by showing the class a representation of what the engine really look like. The teacher will discuss the process involved in the engine cycle and will let the students see what have gotten them wrong.

3. Post activity a. Generalization The students should be able to conclude the following out of the activity: 1. When the balloon was placed near the hair before rubbing nothing happened. The same with the two balloons. 2. The hair sticks to the balloon, or in short attracted. This happened because the balloon is negatively charged while the hair was positively charged, having different signs made them attracted. 3. The balloons repel each other. This was because both balloons gained electrons after rubbing the hair making it negatively charged. And because the balloons have the same charge they repel. 4. The law s of electric charges states that like charges repel each other while unlike charges attract 5. An object becomes positively charge when the electrons that it have transfers to another object making its electrons less than the protons it have. And it becomes negatively charge when it acquire electrons from another object making its protons less than the electrons it have. 6. The charges are not continuously moving, it is stationary. 7. Static electricity is a stationary electric charge that is built up on a material. The charge remains until it is allowed to escape to an object with a weaker or opposite electrical charge. 4. Values Situation Suppose you are given the following situation what will you do?
