IGNITION SYSTEM
Purpose Provide the spark to ignite the fuel/air mixture.
1.2
Description The spark ignition system consists of two engine mounted exciter boxes, two high tension cables and two spark igniters. The system is energised during engine start up. The engine anti-ice and can be energised by the stall warning detector (JT15D-5 installation in Beechjet). Cessna installations may be fitted with dual ignition system in accordance with SB7178 (JT15D-1 and 4 series).
1.3
Exciter Box A sealed unit transforms a DC low voltage input into a high voltage output. When the unit energises, a capacitor progressively charges until the stored energy is sufficient to ionise a spark gap, then the capacitor discharges through the igniter plugs.
1.4
Ignition Cables Two cables carry the electrical energy from each exciter box to their respective igniter. Each cable consists of an insulated electrical lead contained in a flexible metal braiding and protected with a plastic sleeve.
