TLE 9 CHAPTER I YOUNG ADOLESCENT CARE LESSON 1: Developmental Changes OK, our lesson for today is adolescent/ adolescence.

. Can you define what adolescent/ adolescence means? In human life, we go through some developments not only physically but also mentally, emotionally and socially. In human development we have 5 stages: 1. Infant a child in his first period in life. (simply a baby/newborn) [age: 0-1 yr. old] 2. Toddler a child was able to develop his cognitive, emotional and social development. [1 to 3 yrs. old] 3. Middle Childhood/Primary School by this stage, the child was able to dress themselves, catch a ball or even tie their own shoes. [3-8 yrs. old] 4. Puberty and Adolescence in this stage, the childs sexual and physical characteristics mature. [10-14 yrs. old] Adolescence is the period between puberty and adulthood. 5. Adulthood one who has attained maturity or legal age. So, among those stages of human development our focal point is on the Adolescence and Puberty stage, because you are in the age range of this stage. Q: What is puberty again? In other words, puberty is the stage of human development wherein both men and women were able to reproduce. Puberty is a result of the release of hormones. Q: So what are hormones? Hormones these are chemical substance that are release into the bloodstream and travel to other organs and tissues.

The hormones produce by women are called estrogen and progesterone. While the hormones produce by men are called testosterone. These hormones affect the physical and emotional factors of a person. Q: Ok girls, what are the changes you have notice when youre growing? o Development of breast o Increase in height o Public, Armpit and Leg hair growth o Menstrual Cycles For girls, puberty usually finished by age of 17. Your height after this age is uncommon. In other words, a girl reached her full physical maturity but her educational and emotional continues. Q: Ok boys, what are the changes you have notice when youre growing? o Faster growth, especially height. o Hair growth under the arms, on the face. o Increased shoulder width. o Growth of penis (scrotum and testes) o Wet nights (night emissions) o Voice changes *************************************** [BOOK: MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL TABLE] *************************************** TRAITS AND PERSONALITY Q: Can you differentiate traits from personality? Trait is something about you that shows what you are like. While, personality is the combination of the ways you think, act, and feel. Trait (kaugalian/katangian) (pagkatao/katauhan) personality

Traits can be: 1. Physical you can easily identify your physical trait when you face the mirror. 2. Mental the way you think and learn. Some people can acquire new skills by watching other.

3. Social the way you act is one of your traits. Social traits like helping others make you feel good about yourself. 4. Emotional feelings or emotions. Your emotions or feelings are reflected on how you react at or do things at a particular time. Personality is the combination of the ways you think, act, and feel. Your personality makes you special person you are. No one has a personality that is just like yours. ACTIVITY: Group them into 3 groups. Compare and contrast the youth 10 years to the youth today.
