The Flight of the Eagles; Renew or Perish

By Melba Grullon (Dom. Rep.)

"But those who trust the Lord will have new strength; they will raise wings like
Eagles; they will run and will not get tired; they will walk and will not be tired ".
(Isaiah 40:31).

For centuries the eagles have been considered symbols of Power, Freedom, Wisdom,
Value and Excellence. We consider the "high spirits" to be Eagles. Why? What virtues do
these birds have? What we can learn from the Eagles? First of all, the eagles do not fly
low, but they always look for high altitude. It seems they enjoy the wider angle of the
world. Studios say that they fly to approximately 1800 meters on the level of the sea.
They construct their nest to thousands meters of height. The nest which Eagle constructs
becomes its permanent home. It takes care of it and maintains it, renewing it constantly
by taking new branches on it. In the warmth of its nest, the Eagle instructs its eaglets
until these can fly by themselves.

The Eagle flies alone or in couple, it does not need to fly in groups (That makes me to
remember the wise words: "it does not move with the many of the world, but with the
few of God"). The eagles are very faithful to their home. They recognize on time their
vital signs of aging and this is the time when they initiate the most transcendental
process of their life. When the eagles are about forty years old, they are losing their force
to fly in high altitude because their old quills become heavy; their beak bends down in
the direction of their chest and their claws turn very tight, so they cannot sustain their
prey. (Note: These informations are based on a “Cherokee Legend”).

What does the wise eagle do, then? It assumes the control of its life, taking
responsibility of its survival and renewing itself, because it knows that –otherwise-
it would perish. Fasting, in its nest, it subdues itself to a painful, but extremely vital
process, for approximately five months: It strikes his bent beak with force against a rock,
until it detaches from its body and it waits until a new beak is born. Then, it pulls its own
claws up, one by one. When the new claws are born, it uses them to take off all its old
and heavy quills.

After being subdued by itself under this renovation and transformation process, and
now having new beak and claws, it waits with Faith until its new quills are born so it can
return to fly... and then, it undertakes new flights WITH DIGNITY (Have you see how
the eagle flights…It is majestic!). It conquers the skies for about thirty joyful years more.
It conquests new heights because It is rejuvenated. It is renewed with new
determination. It renews its wineskins to receive the new wine of a new life.

What can we learn from this example? Let us apply it to our current "reality". How is
our Planet now? How are the Earth humans now?

Now, it seems that our Earth has lost her strength to continue living, because she has
been mistreated, exploded, over-populated, so soiled, that she urgently needs to pass
through a process of vital transformation. Mother Gaia, with all her impetus and
wisdom of a "high spirit", does an extraordinary effort and, although it is extremely
painful, she begins to renew herself, giving birth from her entrails a "new reality" so
thus is able to continue living more, for many, many years... like the Eagles. That same
process must be passes through by each human being, recognizing which things
must be pulled off him and herself... to transform, to become a new human being with a
“high spirit” to survive, joined with the new Earth.

Nobody has said this process would be easy... because it is not.

Structures that have demonstrated to be unsuitable, corrupted over and over again,
full of injustices, must be pulled down, ruined, so new structures be born which the
humanity can survive with and undertake its high flight again, with renewed strength,
while continue rising up the spiral of the constant evolutionary process of the Planet...
and the Universe.

Although lamentably this process results painful for many of us, for all of us, we must
understand that the issue is to renew or perish. The renovation process requires we
let many things leave, including many people who must follow their way towards a new
place. The Earth humans suffer mainly because we have attachments, fondness,
and due to our resistance to the changes, although these changes are for our
best, although these changes are our salvation... and although there is no another
alternative. We become fond of the things and the people because we think they belong
to us. But, they do not.

In order to survive, to continue evolving, we must define what our priorities

really are, understanding that we have filled the world and ourselves with so many
harmful habits, so many things that we do not need and that, because we do not
watch from the highest heights, we are now too scared "to lose" the things we have
considered to be our treasures. But, what did the Master Jesus the Christ teach us about
the material world? He said: "Do not accumulate treasures and reserves here on Earth,
where the moth and the oxide make damage, and where the thieves break the wall and
rob. Accumulate treasures and reserves in Heaven, where there is neither moth nor
oxide to make damage, and where there are not thieves to break the wall and rob.
Wherever your treasure is, it will also be your heart.”

Let’s understand that our treasures are not the material things; the things go and
come. Our treasure is our High Spirit, which allows us to get through everything
which limits us, renews ourselves and continues evolving.

Our treasure is which remains with us... It is in our Soul!
