Point source LEDs provide excellent opportunities to direct light accurately improving uniformity and reducing the electrical load. Well designed and manufactured optical components can provide the desired light distribution and lit appearance whilst limiting glare and providing optimum energy eciency. Canolux LED technology can be combined with Smart External intelligent controls to provide a low maintenance, low energy fit and forget solution for lighting garage forecourts.

Smart System Electronic dimmable LED drivers are automatically controlled by the dedicated Smart External Micro-pod Sensor allowing instant switching and dimming of individual and / or groups of luminaires (see page 8 for details).
Presence Detection
Traditionally, spaces such as petrol station forecourts remain lit all night (and often all day) even when occupancy is low. The Smart External Micro-pod Sensor built into each Canolux LED luminaire allows the luminaires to be switched o or dimmed down to a low output level when the area is unoccupied. As soon as the sensor detects movement, the luminaire will return back to full output. Presence detection parameters can be adjusted using a hand-held infra-red Smart External Programmer (see pages 14-15).
The Smart External Micro-pod Sensor incorporates an ambient light sensor which will enable at dusk and disable at dawn. Ambient light level switching can be adjusted using a hand-held infra-red Smart External Programmer (see pages 14-15).
Master Motionline
Motionline 1
Motionline 2
The Smart External system can operate at three dierent levels (platforms) oering increasing functionality. PLATFORM 1 : STAND-ALONE The simplest level. Each luminaire operates as a stand-alone item. PLATFORM 2 : MOTIONLINE LINKED Groups of luminaires are linked with a two-core bus, called the Motionline, allowing each luminaire to pass presence detection to all luminaires within the group (see diagram above).
PLATFORM 3 : TIME AND WEB BASED CONTROL Oers time schedule control, so that luminaires may be switched o when not needed (can be remotely configured through a secure web-site). It also allows local configuration and manual override (Smart External Controller required).

Smart Booster
The addition of a Smart External Booster allows other lighting such as signage and LED feature lighting to be switched from the canopy Smart luminaires PIR detector (PLATFORM 2 & 3) and via time control (PLATFORM 3). The Smart External Booster also allows up to 4 motionline groups to communicate with each other (see diagram on page 13).

Programmability Scenarios
Zone 1 Zone 2 Zone 3 Zone 4
Luminaires can be individually programmed (see page 16) to dim or switch in areas of low occupancy or in daylight conditions (Smart External Programmer required). Forecourts can be set as required with an emphasis on the following scenarios (see diagram above): A : BEST APPEARANCE Realising energy savings whilst keeping an open for business feel. B : MAXIMUM ENERGY SAVINGS for the lowest running costs.
The system allows re-programming at any time should the lighting emphasis need changing.

Lighting Zone
A - BEST APPEARANCE
ZONE 1
On at 30% output.
ZONE 2
Switched o when sucient daylight, dims down to 30% 5 minutes after last detected movement.
ZONE 3
Switched o when sucient daylight, at night dims to 30% 5 minutes after last detected movement. Stays at 30% until dawn, or next detected movement.
Switched o when sucient daylight, dims down to 30% after 5 minutes, then switches o 10 minutes later if no further movement is detected.
ZONE 4

Programmable Features
One of the key benefits of the Smart External system is the ability to program every luminaire dierently. Each luminaire can be tailored to suit its own very specific local requirements. The main programmable features are:
Min lamp - The minimum dim level of the lamps can beset. Factory setting 10%. Max lamp - The maximum lamp level can be set to tune the levels to local conditions. Factory setting 100%. Security delay - This allows an interim delay (30 seconds to 10 hours, or continuous) at Security level. For example, all luminaires around the forecourt may be set to switch o except for entrance/exit areas which will reduce to 50%, for a further 3 hours (assuming no presence detected) or whilst the forecourt is open. Alternatively as a security feature, perhaps 1 in 5 lights may be kept on continuously at any chosen level and only increase to full brilliance when a person or car enters the forecourt or space.
Lights on setting - Completely variable. Factory setting approximately 200lux. Security level (see also Security delay) - Can be set anywhere between minimum and maximum. Factory setting 30%. PIR sensitivity - May be adjusted to suit conditions. No presence delay - After a variable delay (30 seconds to 10 hours) the luminaires turn o or go to the Security Level. Factory setting - 5 minutes 30% continuous security level .

The Canolux displays an almost linear response to energy saved and light produced during dimming. For Example, if lamps are running at 30% light output then 68% power saving is achieved.
