Understanding scalar and vector quantities

Learning Outcomes: A student is able to: define scalar and vector quantities. give example of scalar and vector quantities. A. 1. 2. Scientific Concepts: Scalar quantity is a physical quantity which has only magnitude or size. Vector quantity is a physical quantity which has both magnitude and direction. B. Scientific Skills/TSTS: Predicting, Inferring, Making Conclusion, Generating Ideas, and Problem Solving C. Scientific Attitudes and Noble Values: Having an interest, curious, having critical and analytical thinking, being creative, being objective, thinking rationally, being confident, being respectful and well-mannered. D. Materials, equipments and resource materials: Worksheet E. Consideration of Safety Precautions: None F. Phase Prior Knowledge: Students have already know based quantities and derived quantities in physics. Scientific Teaching and Learning Activities Notes Teacher Activities Student Concept/

Introduction/ Eliciting Ideas (10 minutes)

Content Multiplication , division or both calculation from base quantities can produce derived quantities.

Revised back what student had learn before. Discuss previous exercise. Elicit students ideas about the unit that use in their daily life.

Activities Students respond to teachers questions

Strategy/Technique: Whole class Q&A Skills: Generating ideas. Attitudes/values: Being confident, wellmannered

Structuring/ Restructuring of Ideas ( 20 minutes)

1. Scalar quantity is a physical quantity which has only magnitude or size.

Show some different picture that about scalar and vector. Ask two central guiding questions: What is scalar quantity? What is vector quantity?

Students make prediction, inference, observation and conclusion

Strategy/Technique: Interactive Whole class Q&A and demonstration Resources: OHP Skills: Predicting, Inferring, Observing & Classifying Attitudes/Values: Being creative Thinking rationally Being confident and independent.

2. Vector quantity is a physical quantity which has both magnitude and direction.

Application of Ideas (10 minutes)

Give student a task to classify the item into two group either scalar quantities or vector quantities.

Students solve the in their group problem given base on what they had learned.

Strategy/Techniques Group discussion Skills: Problem solving Attitudes/Values: Having critical and analytical thinking Thinking rationally Being confident and independent Being cooperative Strategy/Techniques: Whole class Q&A

Reflection/ Closure

Let students conclude by stating the main
