Physics 4 PERDANA 6th February 2009 8.40 a.m 9.50 a.m ( 70 minutes) 41 students Force and Motion Analyzing linear motion

Learning Outcomes: A student is able to: Define acceleration and deceleration and state that a = (v-u)/t Calculate acceleration and deceleration Solve problems on linear motion with uniform acceleration using v= u + at s= ut + at2 v2 = u2 + 2as A. 1. 2. B. Scientific Concepts: Acceleration is rate of change of velocity with time. Negative acceleration is called deceleration.

Scientific Skills/TSTS: Predicting, Inferring, Making Conclusion, Generating Ideas, and Problem Solving

C.

Scientific Attitudes and Noble Values: Having an interest, curious, having critical and analytical thinking, being creative, being objective, thinking rationally, being confident, being respectful and dare to try.

D.

Materials, equipments and resource materials: Ticker timer, ticker-tape, trolley, OHP, mahjong paper.

E.

Consideration of Safety Precautions: Handle ticker timer with care.

F.

Prior Knowledge: Students have already known the differences between distance and displacement, and speed and velocity and there are rate of change of length travelled per unit time.

Phase Introduction/ Eliciting Ideas (10 minutes)

Scientific Concept/ Content Distance is total length of the path travelled by an object from one location to another. Displacement is the distance travelled in a specific direction. Speed is the rate of change of distance. Velocity is the rate of change of displacement. v= s/t

Teaching and Learning Activities Teacher Activities Student Activities Revised back what Students student had learned respond to before on the teachers differences between questions distance, and answer displacement and the problem speed ,velocity. given. Elicit students ideas about velocity and acceleration while they are in vehicle or watching the car race.

Notes Strategy/Technique: Whole class Q&A Skills: Generating ideas. Attitudes/values: Being confident, wellmannered

Structuring/ Restructuring of Ideas (30 minutes)

Acceleration is rate of change of velocity with time. Negative acceleration is called deceleration.

Ask central guiding questions: What is acceleration?

Students make prediction, inference, Show students a ticker observation timer, ticker tape and and trolley. conclusion Explain how to use and the functions of those materials. Distribute students a made ticker tape for them to analyze the motion. .

Strategy/Technique: Interactive Whole class Q&A and demonstration Resources: Mahjong paper, ticker timer, ticker tape, trolley. Skills: Predicting, Inferring, & Observing, Predicting Conclusion. Attitudes/Values: Being creative Thinking rationally Being confident and independent.

Application of Ideas (20 minutes)

v= u + at s= ut + at
2

Divide student into 4 groups.

Students solve the problem

Strategy/Techniques Self assessment

v2 = u2 + 2as

Give each group a question that need them to use the given formula.

given base on what they had learned.

Resources : Mahjong paper. Resource : OHP Skills: Problem solving. Attitudes/Values: Having critical and analytical thinking Thinking rationally Being confident and independent

Reflection/ Closure (10 minutes)

Acceleration is rate of change of velocity with time. Negative acceleration is called deceleration.

Lets student summarize what they had learned. Giving exercise on previous lesson.

Students express what they had learned in their own word.

Strategy/Techniques: Whole class Q&A Skills: Making conclusion. Attitudes/Values: Being confident . well mannered.
